Gospel of the Week

The Second Sunday of Lent - Year C

Jesus with Moses and Elijah

About eight days after Jesus said these things, he took Peter, James, and John and went up on a mountain to pray. While Jesus was praying, his face was changed, and his clothes became shining white. Then two men were talking with Jesus. The men were Moses and Elijah. They appeared in heavenly glory, talking with Jesus about his death which would happen in Jerusalem. Peter and the others were asleep. But they woke up and saw the glory of Jesus. They also saw the two men who were standing with him. When Moses and Elijah were about to leave, Peter said, “Master, it is good that we are here. We will put three tents here - one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” (Peter did not know what he was saying).

While Peter was saying these things, a cloud came down all around them. Peter, James, and John became afraid when the cloud covered them. A voice came from the cloud. The voice said, “This is my Son. He is the One I have chosen. Obey him.”

When the voice finished speaking, only Jesus was there. Peter, James, and John said nothing. At that time they told no one about what they had seen.

A Thank you from Mrs Brosnan

Mrs Brosnan would like to thank all those who kept her in their thoughts and prayers as she travelled to South Africa for her mother's funeral last week. In this, the most trying of times, knowing that the parents/carers, staff and children of St Winefride's were there supporting her was a great comfort. God bless you all.

First News Ukraine Schools Appeal

Why We Launched our First News Ukraine Schools Appeal

"For sixteen years First News has been providing unbiased news and educational resources to schools and children at home. Since the start of the war in Ukraine we have been inundated with feedback from teachers, pupils and parents wondering how they can help.

We have launched our First News Ukraine Schools Appeal to raise valuable funds for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).

All funds raised from the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine appeal, supported by the First News Ukraine Schools Appeal, will help to supply urgent food, hygiene supplies and medical care to refugees and those trapped by the conflict."

To help raise money for this appeal we would like as many of you as possible to wear Yellow and Blue on Wednesday 16th March and to make a voluntary donation of £1.00, which will be passed on to the DEC appeal.

What Parents & Carers need to know about Yubo

With an estimated user-base of 50 million, Yubo (previously known as Yellow) might be the biggest social media platform you’ve never heard of. Unless, of course, you caught last month’s Sunday Times investigation – in which an undercover journalist posed as a 15-year-old girl on the app, receiving requests for hook-ups, demands for nude images and threats of sexual violence.

As if that were not alarming enough, Yubo also enables strangers to watch children’s live video streams – while granting the app access to their device’s GPS tracker reveals a young person’s exact location. Our guide this week has a thorough breakdown of everything that trusted adults ought to know about Yubo.

Mobile Free Zone

We would like to remind all parents/carers and visitors to the school that St Winefride's is a 'Mobile Free Zone'. This is to ensure the safety of the children and is good safeguarding practice. If you enter the school premises, including the playground, please keep your mobile phone out of sight at all times.

We will be putting up posters around the school to remind everyone of the policy.

This Week's Prayer

Father,

We thank you that Jesus loves and protects us like a mother hen protects her chicks. Keep us near to him and may we never stray from him.

In Jesus' name we pray.

Amen.

God Bless You,

Mrs Brosnan

Queen's Platinum Jubilee

We are sure that you have heard that it was Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee on 6th February. To help celebrate this the late May bank holiday has been moved to 2nd June and an extra bank holiday has been added for Friday 3rd June to make a four day weekend. However these days are in the June half term break so schools are allowed to choose another day to celebrate.

Therefore school will be closed on Monday 20th June 2022.
