Gospel of the Week

The First Sunday of Lent - Year C

Jesus Is Tempted by the Devil

Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. The Spirit led Jesus into the desert where the devil tempted Jesus for 40 days. Jesus ate nothing during that time. When those days were ended, he was very hungry.

The devil said to Jesus, “If you are the Son of God, tell this rock to become bread.”

Jesus answered, “It is written in the Scriptures: ‘A person does not live only by eating bread.’”

Then the devil took Jesus and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. The devil said to Jesus, “I will give you all these kingdoms and all their power and glory. It has all been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I wish. If you worship me, all will be yours.”

Jesus answered, “It is written in the Scriptures: ‘You must worship the Lord your God. Serve only him!’”

Then the devil led Jesus to Jerusalem and put him on a high place of the Temple. He said to Jesus, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! It is written in the Scriptures:

‘He has put his angels in charge of you.

They will watch over you.’ Psalm 91:11

‘They will catch you with their hands.

And you will not hit your foot on a rock.’” Psalm 91:12

Jesus answered, “But it also says in the Scriptures: ‘Do not test the Lord your God.’”

After the devil had tempted Jesus in every way, he went away to wait until a better time.

Luke 4:1-13

World Book Day

We celebrated World Book Day today and it was wonderful to see the children dressed as their favourite characters from books, comics and films. Mrs Popat and the Head Boy and Girl visited every class and chose the winners of the 'Best Costume' competition and the children have received a prize and a certificate. Every child will also receive a 'World Book Day' badge on MarvellousMe. Below is a picture of all the winners.

Mobile Free Zone

We would like to remind all parents/carers and visitors to the school that St Winefride's is a 'Mobile Free Zone'. This is to ensure the safety of the children and is good safeguarding practice. If you enter the school premises, including the playground, please keep your mobile phone out of sight at all times.

We will be putting up posters around the school to remind everyone of the policy.

What Parents & Carers need to know about WhatsApp

As people sought a quick, reliable way to stay in touch with loved ones at the onset of the pandemic, WhatsApp experienced a jump of 40% in its usage figures. It’s now been downloaded by almost a third of the planet’s entire population – with more than half (53%) of those users opening the app at least once per day.

WhatsApp’s everyday familiarity, however, can actually disguise some of the risks around its use. Scammers, for instance, are increasingly turning to the app as a vehicle for cons, while it's also being chosen as a means of adding credibility to fake news stories. Updated for 2022, our guide brings trusted adults the lowdown on the instant messaging giant.

Term Dates for 2022/2023

The new term dates for the next academic year, 2022/2023, are on the school's website. Please click here to go to the Term Dates page.

Queen's Platinum Jubilee

We are sure that you have heard that it was Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee on 6th February. To help celebrate this the late May bank holiday has been moved to 2nd June and an extra bank holiday has been added for Friday 3rd June to make a four day weekend. However these days are in the June half term break so schools are allowed to choose another day to celebrate.

Therefore school will be closed on Monday 20th June 2022.

This Week's Prayer

We know that we will be tempted.

Some things may look very appealing to us, but we ask for your help in resisting temptation.

In the name of Jesus we pray.

Amen

God Bless You,

Mrs Brosnan

Head Teacher
