Gospel of the Week

The Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time -  Year A

The Importance of the Law

I tell you that you must do better than the teachers of the law and the Pharisees. If you are not better than they are, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus Teaches About Anger

“You have heard that it was said to our people long ago, ‘You must not murder anyone. Anyone who murders another will be judged.’  But I tell you, if you are angry with your brother, you will be judged.

Jesus Teaches About Adultery

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You must not be guilty of adultery.’ But I tell you that if anyone looks at a woman with lust, he has already committed adultery with her in his mind.

Make Promises Carefully

“You have heard that it was said to our people long ago, ‘When you make a promise, don’t break your promise. Keep the promises that you make to the Lord.’ But I tell you, never make an oath. Don’t make an oath using the name of heaven, because heaven is God’s throne.

Say only ‘yes’ if you mean ‘yes,’ and say only ‘no’ if you mean ‘no.’ If you must say more than ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ it is from the Evil One.

Matthew 5:20-22, 27-28, 33-34, 37

Message from Mrs Brosnan

It was a very busy last week before the Half Term Break. We had Safer Internet Day, Mental Health Week and of course the Parent/Carer Consultations. We were delighted to see so many of you in school finding out about your children's progress.

After the break we will be launching our CAFOD Lenten Appeal, a huge thank you to Peter Jones of CAFOD for coming in and sharing his assembly with the children today.

Have a wonderful break and we'll see you all bright and early at 8.40am on Monday 20th February!

What Parents & Carers need to know about

10 Ways Gaming can Support Positive Outcomes

The potential negative effects of gaming on young people’s mental health (when the compulsion to play begins to interfere with regular activities like homework, exercise or socialising) are well documented. In recent years however, there’s been a groundswell of research making a contrasting point – that safe, healthy amounts of gaming can actually help to improve mental wellbeing.

One of the most prominent studies was carried out by Oxford University in 2021, which found that moderate amounts of time playing family-friendly games led to respondents reporting an improved sense of mental wellbeing. Our guide has ten tips for trusted adults on how safe, healthy gaming can offer more than just an enjoyable leisure activity for children.

This Week's Prayer

Dear God,

Sometimes we say things in anger that hurt other people. Help us to guard against hateful and hurtful words and forgive us as we ask those we have hurt to forgive us as well.

In Jesus' name we pray.

Amen.

God Bless You,

Mrs Brosnan

Head Teacher
