Gospel of the Week

The Fifth Sunday of Ordinary Time - Year B

Jesus Heals Many People

Jesus and his followers left the synagogue. They all went at once with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever. The people there told Jesus about her. So Jesus went to her bed, took her hand, and helped her up. Immediately the fever left her, and she was healed. Then she began serving them.

That night, after the sun went down, the people brought to Jesus all who were sick. They also brought those who had demons in them. The whole town gathered at the door of the house. Jesus healed many who had different kinds of sicknesses. He also forced many demons to leave people. But he would not allow the demons to speak, because they knew who he was.

Early the next morning, Jesus woke and left the house while it was still dark. He went to a place to be alone and pray. Later, Simon and his friends went to look for Jesus. They found him and said, “Everyone is looking for you!”

Jesus answered, “We should go somewhere else, to other towns around here. Then I can preach there too. That is the reason I came.” So he travelled everywhere in Galilee. He preached in the synagogues and forced demons to leave people.

Mark 1:29-39

You Said, We Listened

The St Winefride’s School Council met with Olive Dining, our caterers, recently and among the items under discussion was hot dogs!

We are delighted to announce that Hot Dogs are now part of the school menu and the children love them.

Anti Knife Crime Workshop

We are hosting an Anti Knife Crime Workshop for parents/carers on Friday 8th March in the main hall straight after the end of the school day. The children and staff have already taken part in their workshops and we can say that it will provide a valuable insight in how to help keep your children safe. The session is just for parents so there will be childcare available at school on this day.

Children's Mental Health Week

As part of Children's Mental Health Week there are a couple of Webinars which you may book on for next Monday and Friday. Click this link to book your place:

Number Day

Today was Number Day 2024! The children had a great time dressing in their number related outfits and learning lots of interesting number facts from the Number Day Trail around the school.

Did you know that the only Shakespeare play to include the word 'Mathematics' is "The Taming of the Shrew" ?

Some of the children measured the running track in the playground and learnt that the lanes got progressively longer the further they were from the middle!

Mrs Brosnan was covered in Times Tables stickers and was giving them out to children who could answer Times Tables Questions and Dusty joined in too, jumping through hoops!

Student Social Worker

We are delighted to introduce Mr Jude Ezeora, our new Student Social Worker. Jude will be with us on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, until the end of the academic year and we are sure he will be a huge success in his role. Jude will be available to speak to parent/carers at the Coffee morning every Friday and is also happy to meet parent/carers during the week too. Please click the button below to read his introductory letter and we are sure you will join us in giving him a warm St Winefride's welcome.

Hymn of the Half Term - Spring 1 - 2024

Hymn of the Half Term

This half term's hymn is 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord) by Matt Redman. It is a more modern hymn but is already a favourite with the children.

To play the hymn please click on the Google Slide and the music will start automatically once you advance to the second slide. You may then advance the slides after every two verses and the music will continue to play as you do so.

There is also as link to the YouTube video on the slides and below:

 School Bags

Please note that the children should not bring rucksacks/backpacks into school as there is not enough space to store them safely. The children should have a book bag, either the one with the school logo (available from the school office or from My Clothing at £6.50 (+p&p) and will have the school logo on, not the example logo shown on the website) or a plain blue book bag. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

School Ping Messaging Service

At St Winefride's we use the School Ping messaging service extensively to keep our Parents/Carers informed of events during the week, half term and generally throughout the year.

This newsletter is sent out via School Ping, as well as being posted on the School Website. Other messages sent via School Ping include your children's homework, messages about educational visits, reminders about Assemblies, After School Clubs, Parents Evenings and much more. Please take the time to read the messages sent via School Ping so that you are kept up to date with all the latest information.

School Dinner Menu

Please click the picture or the button below to see the menu the children will be choosing their meals for the Spring Term. Next week will be the Spring Week 3 Menu.

Home Work

Just a reminder that children should only complete the homework set and not fill in additional pages in their homework books. All homework books should be returned on the day set by your child's class teacher or by the Wednesday of the following week at the latest.

Safeguarding - Keeping Your Child Safe

What Parents & Carers Need to Know About Persuasive Design

Apps and sites are all competing for our attention 📢👀 Over the years, numerous strategies have been developed which are intended to influence users’ behaviour – making us more likely to remain on a site, game or platform for longer periods of time. These techniques are known as ‘persuasive design’ and can have a particularly profound effect on children and young people 😳

Despite these tactics’ evident effectiveness, there are still plenty of ways to help prevent yourself (and your child) from being psychologically swayed. This week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide breaks down the potential risks posed by persuasive design online – and offers some top tips for recognising and reducing its impact on young people’s decision making.

This Week's Prayer

Dear Father,

Jesus taught us how to care for one another.

Help us to follow his example and show our love by acts of kindness toward others.

In Jesus' name we pray.

Amen.

God Bless You,
