Gospel of the Week

The Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time - Year B

Jesus Removes an Evil Spirit

Jesus and his followers went to Capernaum. On the Sabbath day Jesus went to the synagogue and began to teach. The people there were amazed at his teaching. He did not teach like their teachers of the law. He taught like a person who had authority. While he was in the synagogue, a man was there who had an evil spirit in him. The man shouted,

“Jesus of Nazareth! What do you want with us? Did you come to destroy us? I know who you are - God’s Holy One!”

Jesus said strongly,

“Be quiet! Come out of the man!”

The evil spirit made the man shake violently. Then the spirit gave a loud cry and came out of him.

The people were amazed. They asked each other,

“What is happening here? This man is teaching something new. And he teaches with authority. He even gives commands to evil spirits, and they obey him.”

And the news about Jesus spread quickly everywhere in the area of Galilee.

Mark 1:21-28

St Stephen's Centenary Mass

Last Sunday St Stephen's celebrated their centenary with a special Mass, led by Bishop Alan Williams, that was attended by many parishioners, staff, children and governors from the school and also Sir Stephen Timms, our local MP. There was a celebration held after the Mass which was enjoyed by all.

Number Day

Next Friday, 2nd February is Number Day 2024. The children may dress up in any number related clothing, the pictures above are from previous year's Number Days. Hymn of the Half Term - Spring 1 - 2024

Hymn of the Half Term

This half term's hymn is 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord) by Matt Redman. It is a more modern hymn but is already a favourite with the children.

To play the hymn please click on the Google Slide and the music will start automatically once you advance to the second slide. You may then advance the slides after every two verses and the music will continue to play as you do so.

There is also as link to the YouTube video on the slides and below:

Easy Fundraising

Good Afternoon,

Did you know that we’re registered with easyfundraising and you could help us to raise funds for the school at no extra cost to yourself?

This is a great opportunity to raise much needed funds for the school!

When you shop online, with over 7,500 of your favourite brands, including John Lewis & Partners, Amazon, eBay, notonthehighstreet, etc., you will raise FREE donations for St Winefride's.

If you’re not already signed up, it only takes a few minutes, then you can begin using the easyfundraising website or app straightaway.

Visit our easyfundraising page to get started:

 School Bags

Please note that the children should not bring rucksacks/backpacks into school as there is not enough space to store them safely. The children should have a book bag, either the one with the school logo (available from the school office or from My Clothing at £6.50 (+p&p) and will have the school logo on, not the example logo shown on the website) or a plain blue book bag. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

School Ping Messaging Service

At St Winefride's we use the School Ping messaging service extensively to keep our Parents/Carers informed of events during the week, half term and generally throughout the year.

This newsletter is sent out via School Ping, as well as being posted on the School Website. Other messages sent via School Ping include your children's homework, messages about educational visits, reminders about Assemblies, After School Clubs, Parents Evenings and much more. Please take the time to read the messages sent via School Ping so that you are kept up to date with all the latest information.

School Dinner Menu

Please click the picture or the button below to see the menu the children will be choosing their meals for the Spring Term. Next week will be the Spring Week 2 Menu.

Home Work

Just a reminder that children should only complete the homework set and not fill in additional pages in their homework books. All homework books should be returned on the day set by your child's class teacher or by the Wednesday of the following week at the latest.

Safeguarding - Keeping Your Child Safe

What Parents & Carers Need to Know About MyLOL

“The #1 teen dating website in the world” 🤔😲 That’s the claim of MyLOL, which offers 13 to 19-year-olds the chance to rate each other’s pics, send private messages and contact strangers online. If that sets your alarm bells ringing, you’re far from alone: law enforcement agencies and schools in several countries have seen fit to issue warnings about the platform ⚠

Among the main issues is the fact that MyLOL doesn’t have a reliable age verification method – meaning there’s no foolproof way to stop anyone outside the platform’s intended 13–19 audience signing up for an account under a false age. Our #WakeUpWednesday guide also highlights potential concerns around in-app purchases and the use of geolocation for sinister reasons.
