Gospel of the Week

The Fifth Sunday of Lent - Year C

If there is one among you who has not sinned, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.

Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. But early in the morning he went back to the Temple. All the people came to Jesus, and he sat and taught them. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought a woman there. She had been caught in adultery. They forced the woman to stand before the people.

They said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught having physical relations with a man who is not her husband. The law of Moses commands that we kill with stones every woman who does this. What do you say we should do?”

They were asking this to trick Jesus so that they could have some charge against him.

But Jesus knelt down and started writing on the ground with his finger. They continued to ask Jesus their question.

So he stood up and said, “Is there anyone here who has never sinned? The person without sin can throw the first stone at this woman.”

Then Jesus knelt down again and wrote on the ground.

Those who heard Jesus began to leave one by one. The older men left first, and then the others. Jesus was left there alone with the woman. She was standing before him.

Jesus stood up again and asked her, “Woman, all of those people have gone. Has no one judged you guilty?”

She answered, “No one has judged me, sir.”

Then Jesus said, “So I also don’t judge you. You may go now, but don’t sin again.”

John 8:1-11

A New Beginning

Today, 1st April 2022, the children, staff and governors of St Winefride’s Catholic Primary School are delighted to join the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy Trust. We are all looking forward to building on our strong Catholic partnership in Newham and working together, in Christ, to support the community in Manor Park.

It is likely that you will notice very little change over the coming weeks, other than the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy Trust logo popping up from time to time!

The Rock Steady children held a wonderful concert on Wednesday. It was supposed to last about 30 minutes but instead carried on for over an hour. The children were magnificent and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves! Gervaise, our bandleader, said it was the best concert he has ever helped to deliver, so congratulations everyone.

Easter Raffle & Easter Egg Hunt

Our Parent Carer Forum have organised an Easter Raffle for the children and staff. Tickets cost just 20p and you will have the chance of winning a Cadbury's Easter Egg.

Not only that, they have also arranged for every class to take part in an Easter Egg hunt where everyone is guaranteed a Creme Egg or an Oreo Egg. The Easter egg hunt is free but if you would like to make a voluntary contribution we would be most grateful.

Rubik's Cubes

Sadly we have had to take the decision to no longer allow the children to bring Rubik's Cubes to school. Some children have been distracted by them during lesson time and and there have been some disputes in the playground while using them.

If a child brings a Rubik's Cube into school it will be taken away from them and given to their parent/carer at the end of the day. Please check that your children are not bringing them into school.

School Uniform

Scooter Park Update

The Scooter & Bike Park is starting to take shape! Some of our Parent/Carer Forum were in last week to begin the transformation and it already looks 100% better! Unfortunately the change in the weather meant this week's intended continuation of the project has been delayed.

School Bags

Some of our classrooms are a little tight for space, so please use the school issue school bag wherever possible. The children do not need to bring very much to school and these bags are more than roomy for all their things.

If your child is enrolled in the Breakfast Club please remember the doors are open from 7.45am - 8.05am. If the children arrive later than this they will miss most of the session.

National Online Safety

What Parents & Carers need to know about Facebook

An Ofcom study last year revealed that around one in three (30%) of 12–15-year-olds had received a friend request on social media from someone who they didn’t actually know. Facebook, of course, is far from exempt from such behaviours – and younger users in particular can accidentally exacerbate the problem by over-sharing personal information.

Contact from strangers is far from the only concern that many parents and carers have over their child becoming a Facebook user, however. From FOMO and trolling to young people accidentally damaging their future prospects, our guide this week draws attention to other aspects of the social networking giant that trusted adults ought to be aware of.

This week's Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Jesus gave His life to show His love for us. May we also give our lives in service to Him as an expression of our love.

In Jesus’ name we pray,

Amen.

God Bless You,

Mrs Brosnan

Head Teacher

Queen's Platinum Jubilee

We are sure that you have heard that it was Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee on 6th February. To help celebrate this the late May bank holiday has been moved to 2nd June and an extra bank holiday has been added for Friday 3rd June to make a four day weekend. However these days are in the June half term break so schools are allowed to choose another day to celebrate.

Therefore school will be closed on Monday 20th June 2022.

Mobile Free Zone

We would like to remind all parents/carers and visitors to the school that St Winefride's is a 'Mobile Free Zone'. This is to ensure the safety of the children and is good safeguarding practice. If you enter the school premises, including the playground, please keep your mobile phone out of sight at all times.

We will be putting up posters around the school to remind everyone of the policy.
