Gospel of the Week

The Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year B

Jesus Calms the Storm

That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Class 5F Book Review Competition

A huge thank you to Miss Gamze for organising the Book Review Competition in Class 5F, here is the winning review by K'mauri:

"Hello my name is K'mauri and I am doing a book review about our school book Skellig by David Almond. The genre of the book is a mystery book and family drama. The book is about a boy called Michael who finds a creature called SPOILER (Skellig) in his garage. By the help of his new friend Mina, they go on many adventures.

I would recommend this book to people that like mystery and adventure books. It is a long but very descriptive book using metaphors and similes."

Congratulations K'mauri for a fantastic book review!

Covid Health Champions

Newham are releasing statistics each week to show the current state of the pandemic in the borough.

The most recent dashboard is shown below and was published on 16th June with information for the week 6th May to 12th June. We can see that rates are continuing to rise. The vast majority of cases are now the Delta variant. While the numbers are not nearly what we saw in the worst days of the 2nd wave in January, they are going up. We do want to make sure that people are safe and that these cases don't translate into hospitalisation and sever illness. Everyone 18+ can get their vaccine now - and those 18+ can book to go to the London Stadium this weekend. Please encourage everyone to test regularly and to keep sticking to all social distancing measures

Please click here or on the picture of the statistics to download a copy of the dashboard for 9th June 2021.

Please see the info posters below to see information about the different Covid variants.

Anyone in Newham can now order free rapid tests to be delivered to you at home and then to do at home https://www.newham.gov.uk/coronavirus-covid-19/covid-19-testing/3

You can also pick up tests from a number of places around Newham as well https://www.newham.gov.uk/coronavirus-covid-19/covid-19-testing/2

Below are some of the more popular guides. This list will be updated weekly but all of the guides are available on the above link.

Online hate can affect anyone. Sharing hateful messages about individuals, groups or communities online can have serious consequences and the ubiquity of social media means it’s now even easier to target people all over the world. It’s important children know how to respond and how they can set a positive example. The Euros, which welcome 24 teams from 24 different countries, playing it out in 11 cities across 1 continent, are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate different cultures, backgrounds and beliefs – and the perfect way to deliver one universal message – let’s tackle online hate together.

In the guide, you'll find tips on a number of tips such as talking to trusted adults about upsetting things, setting a positive example online and remembering that you have the power to shape your online world. The guide is available in many different languages please click the link to find out more
