Summer No. 3, Friday 30th April 2021

Gospel of the Week

(The Fifth Sunday of Easter - Year B)

Jesus said to his disciples:

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.

He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and every one that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.

You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you.

I am the vine, you are the branches.

Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.

Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither.

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.”

John 15: 1-8

Covid Health Champions

Newham are releasing statistics each week to show the current state of the pandemic in the borough.

The latest dashboard is shown below and was published on 28th April with information for the week 18th to 24th April. There has been a drop in the number of positive cases but the number is still very high.

Please click here or on the picture of the statistics to download a copy of the dashboard for 28th April 2021.

Anyone in Newham can now order free rapid tests to be delivered to you at home and then to do at home https://www.newham.gov.uk/coronavirus-covid-19/covid-19-testing/3

You can also pick up tests from a number of places around Newham as well https://www.newham.gov.uk/coronavirus-covid-19/covid-19-testing/2

Vaccines are now open to everyone 45 and over in Newham. All the different ways you can book are listed on this website:

https://www.newham.gov.uk/coronavirus-covid-19/covid-19-vaccination/4.

We're also offering even more places where residents can get their vaccine if they live with someone eligible and come along with them. This will now include the Excel centre. Go along with the person who is eligible and has booked and you should be able to get your vaccine. Please do share this with others.

For now the way to get the multigenerational vaccine is to show up with the person who is eligible then the others in the household can get a vaccine then and there OR you can book in for another time

There have been a few questions about going to have a vaccine with someone in your household is eligible for their vaccine. This is available at all the vaccine sites in Newham (the GPs, the pop-ups, the pharmacies, Excel) except Westfield - it's a big deal we can do it at Excel as that's a site that Newham does not locally lead / run.

This offer of being able to be vaccinated with someone you live with is something that Newham has pushed hard for - and argued for with central government - so please do share any stories you have of using it so we can keep it going.

Remember:

HANDS - wash your hands often, for 20 seconds with soap and water.

FACE - wear a face covering whenever you’re inside a public space.

SPACE - stay 2 metres apart from people you don’t live with.

House Points

St George strolled to the top of the leader board this week, no doubt inspired by St George's day last Friday! an impressive 141 children were awarded badges for wearing red last Friday!

A great start to the Summer Term for all of the houses. All of the staff have now been reallocated to the School Houses and we will have a virtual House assemblies for the children in the near future.

Don't forget you are able to check your MarvellousMe account to see when your child receives any House Points or Gold Letters so remember to keep an eye on the app!

Behaviour Chart Update

Another big surge in Bronze Awards this week, which is fantastic news as this shows lots of children are behaving really well, virtually all of the time, well done everyone!.

If your child finishes the day on the Bronze or Silver level or is awarded a Gold Letter you will receive a message in the MarvellousMe app (MMe). If you are yet to download the MMe app please do so as soon as possible as all Gold Letters, House Points and messages etc. from the school will be sent via the MMe app.

National Online Safety Posters

Below are some of the more popular guides. This list will be updated weekly but all of the guides are available on the above link.

Originally released in 2006, Roblox has evolved into one of the most popular platforms for young gamers. It’s certainly among the most commercially successful: more than £200 million was spent on subscriptions and in-game purchases during the last quarter of 2020 alone. But these aren’t the only areas to have caused concerns.

How are some sections of Roblox unsuitable for young players? What are Robux and how do they work? Who are ODers and why should children be wary of them? And why should you think about disabling the in-game messaging function? This week’s guide to Roblox has all the answers.

This Week's Prayer

Dear Father,

We pray that your Holy Spirit will always flow through Jesus, the True Vine, and into our hearts so that we can reach out and share your love with each person that we meet.

Amen.

God Bless You,

Mrs Brosnan

New Caterers and Menu

We have a new catering company - Olive Dining - who started serving the children after the Easter break. The salad/fruit bar is a particular favourite with many children asking for seconds!

We will be sending you the menu for the following week via MarvellousMe every Friday and if you click the buttons below you will be taken to the three weekly menu, for your information.

Parent Carer Forum

We had a very productive Parent Carer Forum Meeting this week, the minutes of which may be found here.

One decision was to ask the children in the School Council to find out what games and toys they would like to play with at break times and then buy these resources with the money raised by the Easter Fundraising.

We would like to thank all of our parents and carers who were able to give their time to attend the meeting.
