Autumn No. 1, Friday 4th September 2020

Gospel of the Week

(The Twenty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year A)

Dealing With Sin in the Church

“If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector. “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

Matthew 18:15-20

School Reopening

Thank you all for your support and feedback as we reopened the school to the children yesterday (Thursday 3rd September). As previously stated, the children returned to their former classes and teachers for Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th September 2020. This allowed some time for settling back into school in a familiar surrounding. The children will begin in their new classes from Monday 7th September 2020 and had a chance to meet their new teachers today.

In order to ensure that we keep our children as safe as possible we have staggered start and end of school times so that not all children arrive and leave the school at the same time.

The new times are as follows:

Year 1 and 2 8.30am - 3.00pm

Year 3 and 4 8.45am - 3.15pm

Year 5 and 6 9.00am - 3.30pm

Children should enter and leave through the main gate. Unfortunately at this time we will still not be permitting parents onto the school site, please follow instructions from staff at the gate.

The new reception children will enter and leave the school through the front office and their times are 8.45am - 3.15pm.

All children should wear school uniform on their return to school except on their PE day when they should wear their PE kit to school.

Please continue to check the website and your MarvellousMe account for any updates.

We will be sending an information letter home with the children next week to outline changes to school routines, how we are following government guidance and various other important information in more detail, this will also be available on the website and sent via MarvellousMe messaging. Please look out for this information.

Class of 2020

Our Year 6 children have now officially left us, sadly we couldn't give them the send off they deserved but Mr McAteer has put together a wonderful video to say goodbye to them. We are sure we will see many of them again in the near future as once you are a a St Winefride's person, you are always a St Winefride's person. Please click this link to see the video.

RSHE Consultation

The consultation period for the new curriculum for Relationships, Sex and Health Education is now closed. Thank you to all those parent/carers who responded.

The new policy will be completed and published soon and we will advise you when it has been uploaded to our website.

Although the consultation has closed we will be leaving the consultation documents on our website until the end of September, should you wish to read them.

The Education service at the Diocese of Brentwood has put together the new curriculum for its schools so you may rest assured that it will be aimed at appropriate levels for the children and will be taught in accordance with Catholic values.

Google Classroom Library

We have exciting news, here is a link to a virtual library, where you only have to click on a book to have it read to you on your device. They are mainly picture books and you get to see all of the pictures too! Just click on the link and it will take you to the library and all you have to do is choose the book you want to hear and see. If the link tells you that the video is restricted click on 'Try SafeShare instead' and that will take you to your book.

Stephen Lawrence Trust

We have worked very closely with the Stephen Lawrence Trust for some time and we would like to share with you a valuable resource that they sent to us this week. They advise that you read through the articles yourself before showing your children as not all of the articles are suitable for younger children, mainly due to them being aimed at adults and therefore the language and vocabulary may be too difficult. We would urge all of our community to read and take the time to think through the issues raised in the articles, thank you.

We all have the Power to Make a Difference

House Point Championship

Almost unbelievably, after several recounts and lots of double checking we found that the final score for the year, after bonus points, lockdown points, moving up the charts points and general points for being a good person were added up, this year every house scored 20202 points! Congratulations to everyone for being absolutely wonderful during this most difficult of years.
