Gospel of the Week

The Twenty Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year C

The apostles said to the Lord, “Give us more faith!”

The Lord said, “If your faith is as big as a mustard seed, then you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Dig yourself up and plant yourself in the sea!’ And the tree will obey you.

Be Good Servants

“Suppose one of you has a servant who has been ploughing the ground or caring for the sheep. When the servant comes in from working in the field, would you say, ‘Come in and sit down to eat’? No, you would say to your servant, ‘Prepare something for me to eat. Then get yourself ready and serve me. When I finish eating and drinking, then you can eat and drink.’ The servant does not get any special thanks for doing what his master told him to do. It is the same with you. When you do everything you are told to do, you should say, ‘We don’t dese

A message from Mrs Brosnan

Today we held our annual Macmillan World's Biggest Coffee Morning event and we would like to thank everyone who donated biscuits and cakes to sell. We would especially like to thank those parents and carers who were able to help selling the cakes and those who came along for a cup of coffee (or tea) and so generously donated to this wonderful cause. Thank you also to the parents/carers of the children who donated to the hot chocolate events held in individual classes. So far, with more sales to take place after school today, we have raised over £140!

I'm sure your children have told you that we have now launched our new House Point system in which the children earn tokens worth 5 house points for a variety of reasons. The tokens are already dropping into the collecting jars and the House Captains and Vice Captains will be collecting the jars and counting the tokens from next Thursday, with the results announced in the Friday Assembly.

School Photos

Individual and family photographs will be taken on Tuesday 4th October. Please send your child to school in their full school uniform even if they have PE on this day.

Secondary School Admissions

The meeting to provide parents/carers with information about the admissions process to secondary school will take place online on Thursday 6th October at 5.00pm. We will send out reminders via School Ping and also as a hard copy nearer the time.

Please note we have had a few parents/carers advise us that the Zoom invite has been showing the time at one hour later than scheduled. This meeting will begin at 5.00pm

If you are applying for a place in a Catholic secondary school and attend Mass at St Stephen's Church, Fr John is happy to meet with you after mass to discuss when he will be able to sign the necessary forms.

Black History Month

Newham is hosting a series of events to celebrate Black History Month starting with Plaistow-born, award-winning British Grime MC, rapper and songwriter, Ghetts, talking about his career at Old Stratford town Hall on 1st October 2022. Please click this link to see the full schedule of events and here for the opportunity to book a place to see Ghetts.

For the Black History Period, Rights and Equality in Newham (REIN) is providing the Newham community with the opportunity to learn how to cook traditional Caribbean dishes and enjoy the beautiful stories behind each of them.

The workshops are open to everyone; children, young people, adults, older people and families from across the diverse communities in Newham.

Participants will be able to take part in structured cooking workshops, creating dishes in a collective space, working with others to explore the origins of Caribbean food and eat together what they have made.

Please click the button below to go to the booking page, which has full details of the event including times and dates.

These events are FREE.

As always, we welcome any parents/carers who would like to come into the school to share their culture with the children. Please contact either the school office or your child's class teacher if you would like to take part.

Keeping safe

We have received the following message from the local police:

Please be advised there has been an increase in reports of bike thefts across the borough.

Indications are that thieves are operating in pairs – two up on one bike, stealing it and then both riding away separately.

If you own a bike – please be vigilant and make sure you leave your bike secure:

School Ping - Messaging Service

We are up to an impressive 96% coverage of pupils already, so thank you very much for joining up and downloading the app so promptly.

We realise that some parent/carers are having difficulty gaining access. If this is the case please email us on info@st-winefrides.newham.sch.uk with School Ping in the subject bar and we will do all we can to give you access as quickly as possible!

What Parents & Carers need to know about

How to be Green with your Tech

Remember the heatwave back in July? Temperatures topping 40° in the UK, wildfires in mainland Europe and severe droughts across the continent. It’s clear evidence of how much global warming has started influencing the weather in this part of the world. Climate change has been described as “the fight of our lifetime”, and it’s a battle we have to win.

The Great Big Green Week is an event designed to inspire people to stand up for nature and tackle climate change together. In support, our guide this week is all about how we can each do our bit to help the planet by re-using or recycling unwanted digital devices such as old smartphones, computers and tablets.

This Week's Prayer

Father,

We don't ask you to give us more faith. We simply ask that you help us to use the faith that we have and trust you to do the rest.

In Jesus' name we pray.

Amen.

God Bless You,

Mrs Brosnan
