Autumn No 14, Tuesday 20th December 2022
What Parents/Carers need to know about:
Autumn No 14, Tuesday 20th December 2022
The mother of Jesus Christ was Mary. And this is how the birth of Jesus came about. Mary was engaged to marry Joseph. But before they married, she learned that she was going to have a baby. She was pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit. Mary’s husband, Joseph, was a good man. He did not want to disgrace her in public, so he planned to divorce her secretly.
While Joseph thought about this, an angel of the Lord came to him in a dream. The angel said, “Joseph, descendant of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife. The baby in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son. You will name the son Jesus. Give him that name because he will save his people from their sins.”
All this happened to make clear the full meaning of what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will be pregnant. She will have a son, and they will name him Immanuel.” This name means “God is with us.”
When Joseph woke up, he did what the Lord’s angel had told him to do. Joseph married Mary.
While it isn't unusual for staff to move from school to school, at St Winefride's we treat all our staff as though they are one of the family, therefore it is with great sadness we have to announce that four members of staff are moving on and today is their last day at St Winefride's.
First of all we say goodbye to Ms Rogan. Ms Rogan has been at St Winefride's for 14 years, starting her teaching career with us as a class teacher and later as Assistant Head Teacher. She has always been there to listen compassionately and offer reassurance to each and every one of us. Her new school doesn't know how lucky they are! We look forward to see Ms Rogan again soon and wish her all the best in her new adventure.
Next we say goodbye to Miss Ahmed. Miss Ahmed has been volunteering at St Winefride's for three years, including through the COVID pandemic. We would like to thank her for everything she has done for the school and are sure she will be a great success in anything she does and look forward to hearing about it in the future.
Mrs Popat is also leaving us today. Mrs Popat started at St Winefride's as a reception class teacher and later became our Special Educational Needs Coordinator. Over the last three years Mrs Popat has made a valued contribution to the school and is now moving on to a position nearer her home. We wish her well in her new school and look forward to seeing her again soon.
Finally we say goodbye to Mr Brown. Mr Brown came to St Winefride's over five years ago and made an immediate impact, not least on Londis' profits on Oreos! He will be missed by everyone here but we are also proud that he will be moving on to an Assistant Head Teacher role in Birmingham, so that he may be near his family. Always smiling and happy to help, Mr Brown will be missed by us all and we wish him all the best in his new role in his home city.
We have new members of staff joining us in January and look forward to introducing you to them in the new year.

Winter and the festive season is finally here with us and we have produced an extensive winter activities programme brochure, for Newham’s Children and young people. The brochure contains information about all the free activities on offer, the dates and the venues.
For families who are in receipt of benefits related free school meals, the Council is making a nutritious meal offer available during the school break.
The Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) section in this brochure, has information of places that have been funded to provide free wholesome meals and exciting activities to those who receive benefits related free school meals. Please make sure you have a look at this section and book slots as early as possible.
The Council is also offering a range of inclusive activities to cater for our vulnerable young people so that no one is left out.
Our Youth Zones will provide a variety of exciting activities such as basketball, table tennis, pool, PS4 computers games and football. Refreshments, lunch and dinner will also be provided.
A range of festive family fun activities from Festive lego making to festive family quizzes, festive arts and crafts, plus family movie and popcorn shows, are some of the fun activities on offer at your local libraries.

In Britain, more than half a million games consoles were given as gifts last Christmas. In the US, the figure was closer to three million. Add in the rest of the world’s major consumer economies – along with the multitudes of phones, tablets and so on which find their way into our Christmas stockings – and you have a lot of people unwrapping a lot of digital tech.
Given that many of the lucky recipients will be children, it’s important that parents and carers take some time to configure any new devices – and the games, apps and software they run – so that they’re safer for young eyes and ears. Our guide has some practical tips to give you extra peace of mind while the kids are excitedly enjoying their new gadgets.
We have a number of items of pre-owned uniform available. Items with our logo on are priced at £1.00 and all other items are 50p each. You may call in at the School Office to see what is available.
If you have any items of uniform that your children may have outgrown please and is still wearable, please donate it to the school. You may drop them off at the School Office or at Coffee Morning.
For you information our updated Uniform Policies are below

Christmas is quickly approaching but this year could be more challenging for many as a result of the cost of living crisis. Against this backdrop, Newham Council is keen to bring our communities together at Christmas – and they are asking for your help. This year, the Council is organising a borough wide campaign ‘We are Together at Christmas’ to harness and encourage the community sprit this borough is famed for. The 'We Are Together at Christmas' campaign has two free to attend elements:
A series of Christmas light ‘Switch On’ events from 19 November.
The Newham ‘Big Christmas Lunch’ week from 12-17 December where our ambition is to host, and encourage, as many community Christmas lunches as possible across the borough in a single week.
There will be Christmas Lights Switch Ons across the borough. To find out where your local Christmas Lights Switch On is taking place, click here.
Christmas is known to be a difficult time for people and with the Cost of Living Crisis this year it will be even harder. From 12 – 17 December, we would like you to join us in holding a Christmas lunch.
In partnership with The Eden Project, we have put together resources to help support you to plan and deliver a lunch. Click here to view the resources or visit The Eden Projects website for more amazing ideas.
