Gospel of the Week

The Thirty Second Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year A

A Story About Ten Girls

“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten girls who went to wait for the bridegroom. They took their lamps with them. Five of the girls were foolish and five were wise. The five foolish girls took their lamps, but they did not take more oil for the lamps to burn. The wise girls took their lamps and more oil in jars. The bridegroom was very late. All the girls became sleepy and went to sleep.

“At midnight someone cried out, ‘The bridegroom is coming! Come and meet him!’ Then all the girls woke up and got their lamps ready. But the foolish girls said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil. Our lamps are going out.’ The wise girls answered, ‘No! The oil we have might not be enough for all of us. Go to the people who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

“So the five foolish girls went to buy oil. While they were gone, the bridegroom came. The girls who were ready went in with the bridegroom to the wedding feast. Then the door was closed and locked.

“Later the others came back. They called, ‘Sir, sir, open the door to let us in.’ But the bridegroom answered, ‘I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.’

“So always be ready. You don’t know the day or the time the Son of Man will come."

Matthew 25:1-13

 Remembrance Day Events

We were fortunate enough to attend two Remembrance Day events today. Our School Council attended the service at the Central Park War Memorial, along with all of our Trust schools, many other Newham Schools, Military veterans and dignitaries from the London Borough of Newham including the mayor. Despite the weather the children played a full part and we are very proud of them.

Some of our Year 6 children also attended the Manor Park Schools Remembers event held at Manor Park Library, where there took part in a solemn event remembering, among others Jack Cornwell, who grew up in Manor Park. The children also had the chance to meet local MP, Stephen Timms and Lesley Solomon who is the author of a remembrance poem about Jack Cornwell.

Anti-Bullying Week Odd Socks Day 2023

School Improvements

BUILDING UPDATE:

We have received good news about our roofing project. Initially we were informed that one roof may not be able to be replaced but have now been told that it will be part of the project. This means we may have the works continuing after the Christmas break but it will be of great benefit to the school in the long term.

 Fitness for Families

Fitness for Families (FFF) will offer a range of health, fitness and sport activities to engage Women, Girls and Children to participate in regular physical activity.

If you would like to support their bid to receive funding which will help them deliver their programme, please go to:

Simultaneous activity i.e., Women exercise sessions and Children Sports hall activities will aim to see more women participate in activities to help reduce some of the barriers to participation, such as Childcare, Costs and Local venues.

Dance Aerobics, Cardio Fit and Stretch & Tone exercises for Women.

Multi-Sports for Children 5-11yrs and

Sport and Well-being activities for Girls 10-16 yrs.

Staying Active is extremely important for all members of the community. Busy lifestyles reduce the time we make for ourselves. Lack of fitness facilities in the Little Ilford and Manor Park area results in non-activity and lower levels of health.

P.A.L.A.C.E’s (Physical Activity & Lifestyle Advantages for Community Enrichment) FFF programme is the perfect solution to motivate Women, Children and Families to improve their health.

Fitness for Families will be offered free to the community. Held at Little Ilford School, evenings and weekends.

If you would like to support their bid to receive funding which will help them deliver their programme, please go to:

 Christmas Decorations

If you have any spare Christmas decorations looking for a home, we would be delighted to receive them, to make the school look nice and festive for the Advent Season.

 Signalong Session

There is an introductory Signalong Session at the Tunmarsh Centre next Wednesday, 15th November between 10.00am and 12.00pm. Contact Naomi Forster or Susan Cooper for more details at:

naomi.forster@newham.gov.uk or susan.cooper@newham.co.uk

 School Bags

Please note that the children should not bring rucksacks/backpacks into school as there is not enough space to store them safely. The children should have a book bag, either the one with the school logo (available from the school office or from My Clothing at £6.50 (+p&p) and will have the school logo on, not the example logo shown on the website) or a plain blue book bag. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

 Nativity Performance

We will be holding the Nativity Performance in the School Hall this year. Due to the space constraints we will now be having the performance on two dates to allow for all children  as well as any parents and carers who wish to attend to be able to see the performance.

Please note it will be children from Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 who will be in the performance.

Children from Year 3 & 4 will be presenting the Easter Performance and children in Year 5 & 6 will be in the end of year production.

All parents and carers are welcome to attend all events regardless of whether their child is performing.

Is My Child Too Ill For School?

It can be tricky deciding whether or not to keep your child off school, nursery or playgroup when they're unwell.

There are government guidelines for schools and nurseries about managing specific infectious diseases at GOV.UK. These say when children should be kept off school and when they shouldn't.

If you do keep your child at home, it's important to phone the school or nursery on the first day. Let them know that your child won't be in and give them the reason.

If your child is well enough to go to school but has an infection that could be passed on, such as a cold sore or head lice, let their teacher know.

Please click this link or the picture for more information from the NHS

School Uniform

Please see the updated Uniform Policy below. We would strongly recommend purchasing non branded items, such as trousers, skirts, shirts, blouses, socks and shoes from supermarkets or other clothing retailers, many of whom will be having return to school sales. We will be carrying out regular uniform checks over the course of the year.

Assembly Videos

Each week the Class presentation during the Achievement Assembly is recorded and then posted on our Vimeo site. Please click the button below to go to our Vimeo site and see the videos!

The Class 4 Assembly from today will be uploaded by Monday.

Safeguarding - Keeping Your Child Safe

What Parents & Carers need to know about

Microtransactions

Seventy-six billion dollars 💰🤯 That’s the value some experts have assigned to this year’s global online microtransaction market – those additional in-app and in-game purchases which offer young players a temptingly quick way to enhance their digital experience for real-world money.

With concerns over the impact of allowing these paid-for upgrades to be available to children, some countries have already either banned microtransactions or subjected them to stringent legislation. This week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide outlines the most significant risks.

Clever Never Goes

CLEVER NEVER GOES has been developed to replace the out-dated ‘stranger danger’ approach.

Whilst child abduction is relatively uncommon, it’s important that children can recognise the potential signs of danger. Teaching children simply to avoid strangers doesn’t work. Most strangers will help rather than harm children. Conversely, it is often people known to children that pose the greatest threat.

Clever Never Goes moves the focus away from strangers and instead teaches children to recognise when someone (anyone) is asking them to go with them. We call this ‘Go Spotting’. In doing so, the programme aims to give children practical safety skills which they can use as they get older and become more independent.

It’s about safety – but it’s also about building children’s abilities to engage with the outside world, and giving parents the confidence to let them.

Picture News

We are hearing about Artificial Intelligence all the time at the moment and how it will save us lots of time and make our lives easier, picture news this week asks:

"Are there some jopbs robots can never do?"

This Week's Prayer

Heavenly Father,

One day we are going to meet you face to face.

We pray that we will all be ready.

In Jesus' name we pray.

Amen.

God Bless You,

Mrs Brosnan

Head Teacher

Sickness

Please remember to call our School Office if your child is unwell and leave a message.

It is also important to remember that if you child is vomiting or has an upset stomach they should remain off school until 48 hours have passed since their last episode of illness.
