Autumn No 7, Friday 20th October 2023
What Parents/Carers need to know about:
Autumn No 7, Friday 20th October 2023
Then the Pharisees left the place where Jesus was teaching. They made plans to trap Jesus with a question. They sent some of their own followers and some men from the group called Herodians. These men said, “Teacher, we know that you are an honest man. We know that you teach the truth about God’s way. You are not afraid of what other people think about you. All men are the same to you. So tell us what you think. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
But Jesus knew that these men were trying to trick him. So he said, “You hypocrites! Why are you trying to trap me? Show me a coin used for paying the tax.” The men showed him a silver coin. Then Jesus asked, “Whose picture is on the coin? And whose name is written on the coin?”
The men answered, “Caesar’s.”
Then Jesus said to them, “Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s. And give to God the things that are God’s.”
We would like to remind all of our parents/carers that we hold a Coffee Morning on Fridays from 8.45am - 9.30am. Everyone is welcome, not just those parents/carers whose children are performing their song from the previous week's assembly.
So if you would like a cup of coffee or tea, a biscuit or a slice of toast, or just the chance to put your feet up and have a chat, please come along to the main hall and join in and chat with friends, old and new!
Just as last year Newham are running a series of events to celebrate Black History Month. Please click the buttons below to book tickets/places at the events. Please note some events may only be suitable for adults or older children.
As you may have seen this morning, a huge amount of insulation has been moved up on to the roof in preparation for some intense work over the Half Term Break. The new skylights in the Junior Corridor have now been fitted and the Window installers will be back during the break to complete the work in the Junior corridor classes.
If you have not already done so please complete the Medical and Permissions Form by clicking this link.
This gives permission for the children to go on Local Area Visits, such as to the library and the park and also gives us essential information to keep your child safe and healthy.

I am sure you are aware that several weeks ago the school had a visit from Ofsted. The official report has now been sent to us and we are able to share it with you.
It has been 14 years since the school was last inspected by Ofsted and in this time there have been a huge amount of changes in both education and the inspection process. Inspections are now far more rigorous and the expectations placed on schools are much higher than there were at the time of our last visit in 2009 so we are delighted and very proud that our report reflects our school with such overwhelming positivity.
Please click on the button below to see our official Ofsted Inspection Report.
Measles cases are rising across the country, with over 102,000 children starting primary school in England being at risk of catching the disease.
Measles is highly infectious and if left unvaccinated nine out of ten children in an early years setting can catch the disease if just one child is infectious.
The annual Flu Vaccine will be available before Christmas, please click the link below to access the consent form. Please read this message from the NHS Immunisation Team:
DEAR PARENT/CARER,
The flu vaccine is being offered at your child’s school again this autumn/winter.
To give consent for your child to have the flu vaccine, please click here:
https://london.schoolvaccination.uk/flu/2023/newham
THE NASAL FLU VACCINE Protects your child from the flu. Protects your family and friends from the flu (especially those who are elderly, young babies, or those who have serious health conditions). Is free Is painless, quick and effective.
We also offer the flu vaccine as an injection, which is gelatine free. This may also be the vaccine of choice for vegans. Please go to our website where you can find out more about the manufacturing of the flu injection, and then decide if the injection is more suited to your child.
Your consent will remain in place for the entire flu season. If your child misses a first visit, you do not need to complete a second form. PLEASE NOTE the flu vaccine will NOT be available to otherwise healthy children after December 15th at all, and so we urge you to return the consent form as soon as possible in case we are not able to visit your child's schools for a second visit this year.
You only need to complete one consent form for each child. If you later change your mind, please call your local team. If your child has this immunisation elsewhere after you have submitted the consent form, you MUST inform Vaccination UK rather than the school. You can also find informational videos on our YouTube channel, including subtitled versions for other languages. We understand that you may have questions about the vaccine. For more information, please go to our website, where you can find a list of FAQ’s, as well as details of our community catch up clinics.
Yours Faithfully, Your Local Immunisation Team Vaccination UK
We have also received information from the NHS about the MMR Vaccine, please click the links below for more information.
It can be tricky deciding whether or not to keep your child off school, nursery or playgroup when they're unwell.
There are government guidelines for schools and nurseries about managing specific infectious diseases at GOV.UK. These say when children should be kept off school and when they shouldn't.
If you do keep your child at home, it's important to phone the school or nursery on the first day. Let them know that your child won't be in and give them the reason.
If your child is well enough to go to school but has an infection that could be passed on, such as a cold sore or head lice, let their teacher know.
Please click this link or the picture for more information from the NHS
Please see the updated Uniform Policy below. We would strongly recommend purchasing non branded items, such as trousers, skirts, shirts, blouses, socks and shoes from supermarkets or other clothing retailers, many of whom will be having return to school sales. We will be carrying out regular uniform checks over the course of the year.
Some of our classrooms are a little tight for space, so please use the school issue school bag, as back packs are simply to big to be stored neatly and safely.
The children do not need to bring very much to school and these bags are more than roomy enough for all their things.
The bags are available from the school office or from My Clothing. They cost £6.50 (+p&p) and will have the school logo on, not the example logo shown on the website.
Plain blue bookbags without the school logo are also acceptable.
Each week the Class presentation during the Achievement Assembly is recorded and then posted on our Vimeo site. Please click the button below to go to our Vimeo site and see the videos!
The Class 4 Assembly from today will be uploaded by Monday.
What's the most prolific partnership in recent football history? 🤔 Son and Kane? ❌ Ronaldo and Benzema? ❌ How about EA and FIFA? Their collaboration produced the most popular sports video game series of all time, with 325 million copies sold worldwide.
EA Sports FC 24 – the makers’ new solo offering – now hopes to emulate FIFA’s legendary success. While it’s almost certain to hit the back of the net in commercial terms, does it keep a clean sheet against FIFA’s traditional online safety risks? Find out in today’s #WakeUpWednesday guide.
CLEVER NEVER GOES has been developed to replace the out-dated ‘stranger danger’ approach.
Whilst child abduction is relatively uncommon, it’s important that children can recognise the potential signs of danger. Teaching children simply to avoid strangers doesn’t work. Most strangers will help rather than harm children. Conversely, it is often people known to children that pose the greatest threat.
Clever Never Goes moves the focus away from strangers and instead teaches children to recognise when someone (anyone) is asking them to go with them. We call this ‘Go Spotting’. In doing so, the programme aims to give children practical safety skills which they can use as they get older and become more independent.
It’s about safety – but it’s also about building children’s abilities to engage with the outside world, and giving parents the confidence to let them.

Wales has reduced its maximum speed limit in residential areas, close to homes and schools, from 30mph to 20mph, becoming the first nation in the UK to introduce these measures. Ministers in Wales have said the 20mph limit will make roads safer, with the aim also being to increase the number of people choosing to walk or cycle. This week's question asks: "Should speed limits be lowered in your local area?"
If you or your children are having difficulty logging in to school platforms such as School Ping, Edu spot, Google Classroom etc. please contact the School Office on 020 8478 0510 and we will find the right person to sort out your problem!
Please remember to call our School Office if your child is unwell and leave a message.
It is also important to remember that if you child is vomiting or has an upset stomach they should remain off school until 48 hours have passed since their last episode of illness.
Parent View is the ideal way to tell everyone how great you think St Winefride's is. Follow this link to the Ofsted Website and let them know just how outstanding the school is!
