Gospel of the Week

(The Twenty Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year A)

God Sends His Son

“Listen to this story: There was a man who owned a vineyard. He put a wall around the vineyard and dug a hole for a winepress. Then he built a tower. He leased the land to some farmers and left for a trip. Later, it was time for the grapes to be picked. So the man sent his servants to the farmers to get his share of the grapes. But the farmers grabbed the servants, beat one, killed another, and then killed a third servant with stones. So the man sent some other servants to the farmers. He sent more servants than he sent the first time. But the farmers did the same thing to the servants that they had done before. So the man decided to send his son to the farmers. He said, ‘The farmers will respect my son.’ But when the farmers saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the owner’s son. This vineyard will be his. If we kill him, then his vineyard will be ours!’ So the farmers grabbed the son, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. So what will the owner of the vineyard do to these farmers when he comes?”

The priests and leaders said, “He will surely kill those evil men. Then he will lease the vineyard to some other farmers. They will give him his share of the crop at harvest time.”

Jesus said to them, “Surely you have read this in the Scriptures:

‘The stone that the builders did not want

    became the cornerstone.

The Lord did this,

and it is wonderful to us.’ Psalm 118:22-23

“So I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you. It will be given to people who do the things God wants in his kingdom."

Matthew 21:33-43

Ofsted Inspection Report

I am sure you are aware that several weeks ago the school had a visit from Ofsted.  The official report has now been sent to us and we are able to share it with you.

It has been 14 years since the school was last inspected by Ofsted and in this time there have been a huge amount of changes in both education and the inspection process. Inspections are now far more rigorous and the expectations placed on schools are much higher than there were at the time of our last visit in 2009 so we are delighted and very proud that our report reflects our school with such overwhelming positivity.

Please click on the button below to see our official Ofsted Inspection Report.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

The Friday Coffee Morning today was taken over by the World's Biggest Coffee morning! Members of the Parent Carer Forum were on hand to serve coffee, tea, biscuits, cakes and doughnuts to our parent/carers. The children enjoyed hot chocolate in their classes and everyone had a great time! We then sold the remaining donations to the children at break time in place of the usual Friday Free Tuck Shop, all proceeds will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.  A big thank you to all who donated cakes and biscuits. We will let you know how much money we raised next week.

Pyjama Day

To coincide with the World's Biggest Coffee Morning, the School Council asked if the children could have a Pyjama Day, so of course we said yes! Lots of children came to school in their pyjamas and it was wonderful to see the school looking so colourful.

 School Bags

Some of our classrooms are a little tight for space, so please use the school issue school bag, as back packs are simply to big to be stored neatly and safely.

The children do not need to bring very much to school and these bags are more than roomy enough for all their things.

The bags are available from the school office or from My Clothing. They cost £6.50 (+p&p) and will have the school logo on, not the example logo shown on the website.

Plain blue bookbags without the school logo are also acceptable.

 Newham Black History Month

Just as last year Newham are running a series of events to celebrate Black History Month. Please click the buttons below to book tickets/places at the events. Please note some events may only be suitable for adults.

The annual Flu Vaccine will be available before Christmas, please click the link below to access the consent form. Please read this message from the NHS Immunisation Team:

DEAR PARENT/CARER,

The flu vaccine is being offered at your child’s school again this autumn/winter.

To give consent for your child to have the flu vaccine, please click here:

https://london.schoolvaccination.uk/flu/2023/newham

THE NASAL FLU VACCINE Protects your child from the flu. Protects your family and friends from the flu (especially those who are elderly, young babies, or those who have serious health conditions). Is free Is painless, quick and effective.

We also offer the flu vaccine as an injection, which is gelatine free. This may also be the vaccine of choice for vegans. Please go to our website where you can find out more about the manufacturing of the flu injection, and then decide if the injection is more suited to your child.

Your consent will remain in place for the entire flu season. If your child misses a first visit, you do not need to complete a second form. PLEASE NOTE the flu vaccine will NOT be available to otherwise healthy children after December 15th at all, and so we urge you to return the consent form as soon as possible in case we are not able to visit your child's schools for a second visit this year.

You only need to complete one consent form for each child. If you later change your mind, please call your local team. If your child has this immunisation elsewhere after you have submitted the consent form, you MUST inform Vaccination UK rather than the school. You can also find informational videos on our YouTube channel, including subtitled versions for other languages. We understand that you may have questions about the vaccine. For more information, please go to our website, where you can find a list of FAQ’s, as well as details of our community catch up clinics.

Yours Faithfully, Your Local Immunisation Team Vaccination UK

We have also received information from the NHS about the MMR Vaccine, please click the links below for more information.

Safeguarding - Keeping Your Child Safe

What Parents & Carers need to know about

Among Us

Among Us: fairly safe, or pretty sus? 👩‍🚀🚀 This scenario of spaceship crew members cooperating to complete tasks and uncover murderous alien imposters has garnered a sizeable and committed following with younger gamers 🎮

Though Among Us is presented in a (mainly) sanitised visual style, any children’s game which essentially foregrounds the concepts of deceit, betrayal and killing is always likely to cause some concerns. This week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide gets among it with Among Us.

Clever Never Goes

CLEVER NEVER GOES has been developed to replace the out-dated ‘stranger danger’ approach.

Whilst child abduction is relatively uncommon, it’s important that children can recognise the potential signs of danger. Teaching children simply to avoid strangers doesn’t work. Most strangers will help rather than harm children. Conversely, it is often people known to children that pose the greatest threat.

Clever Never Goes moves the focus away from strangers and instead teaches children to recognise when someone (anyone) is asking them to go with them. We call this ‘Go Spotting’. In doing so, the programme aims to give children practical safety skills which they can use as they get older and become more independent.

It’s about safety – but it’s also about building children’s abilities to engage with the outside world, and giving parents the confidence to let them.
