Gospel of the Week

(The Twenty Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year A)

A Story About Vineyard Workers

“The kingdom of heaven is like a man who owned some land. One morning, he went out very early to hire some people to work in his vineyard. The man agreed to pay the workers one silver coin for working that day. Then he sent them into the vineyard to work. About nine o’clock the man went to the marketplace and saw some other people standing there, doing nothing. So he said to them, ‘If you go and work in my vineyard, I will pay you what your work is worth.’ So they went to work in the vineyard. The man went out again about twelve o’clock and again at three o’clock. Both times he hired people to work in his vineyard. About five o’clock the man went to the marketplace again. He saw others standing there. He asked them, ‘Why did you stand here all day doing nothing?’ They answered, ‘No one gave us a job.’ The man said to them, ‘Then you can go and work in my vineyard.’

“At the end of the day, the owner of the vineyard said to the boss of all the workers, ‘Call the workers and pay them. Start by paying the last people I hired. Then pay all of them, ending with the workers I hired first.’

“The workers who were hired at five o’clock came to get their pay. Each worker received one silver coin. Then the workers who were hired first came to get their pay. They thought they would be paid more than the others. But each one of them also received one silver coin. When they got their silver coin, they complained to the man who owned the land. They said, ‘Those people were hired last and worked only one hour. But you paid them the same as you paid us. And we worked hard all day in the hot sun.’ But the man who owned the vineyard said to one of those workers, ‘Friend, I am being fair to you. You agreed to work for one silver coin. So take your pay and go. I want to give the man who was hired last the same pay that I gave you. I can do what I want with my own money. Are you jealous because I am good to those people?’

“So those who are last now will someday be first. And those who are first now will someday be last.”

Matthew 18:21-35

School Improvements

BUILDING UPDATE:

Work on the roof over Class 3, Class 4 and Class 5 took place this week. There will be a slight break in the work next week and the roofers will return on Friday.

Also next week the stage area will be dismantled to accommodate a container for the building work. We will be revamping the stage area once all of the work is finished.

 After School  Clubs

The After School Clubs will begin next week:

A Google Form will be sent home via School Ping on Monday to enable you to book your child in an After School Club. Places will be offered on a first come, first served basis and you will be able to choose up to three clubs. We will endeavour to give your child their first preference, but may have to select one of their other choices. Some children may be lucky enough to be selected for more than one club but we cannot guarantee this.

Please click the picture of the letter for full details.

The After School Club Letter, detailing all of the clubs available for the whole of the Autumn Term has also been sent out via School Ping.

Tennis Club

The tennis sessions have recommenced and will continue on Thursday mornings as usual from 8.00am to 9.00am. Please click below for details:

Home Work and Phase Newsletters

Your children will begin to receive their weekly homework from today. They have also received the termly Foundation Subject Homework booklet and the termly Phase Newsletters from their class teachers this week.

A letter regarding our new approach to homework was sent out with the children today and also via School Ping.

 School Bags

Some of our classrooms are a little tight for space, so please use the school issue school bag, as back packs are simply to big to be stored neatly and safely.

The children do not need to bring very much to school and these bags are more than roomy enough for all their things.

The bags are available from the school office or from My Clothing. They cost £6.50 and will have the school logo on, not the example logo shown on the website.

Plain blue bookbags without the school logo are also acceptable.

Reminders

Just a couple of reminders:

We are a Nut Free School, please do not send nuts, in any shape or form into school as a snack or part of a packed lunch.

We also have a no Mobile Phone policy on the school premises. Please ensure mobile phones are not used when you are in the school building or playground.

The annual Flu Vaccine will be available before Christmas, please click the link below to access the consent form. Please read this message from the NHS Immunisation Team:

DEAR PARENT/CARER,

The flu vaccine is being offered at your child’s school again this autumn/winter.

To give consent for your child to have the flu vaccine, please click here:

https://london.schoolvaccination.uk/flu/2023/newham

THE NASAL FLU VACCINE Protects your child from the flu. Protects your family and friends from the flu (especially those who are elderly, young babies, or those who have serious health conditions). Is free Is painless, quick and effective.

We also offer the flu vaccine as an injection, which is gelatinefree. This may also be the vaccine of choice for vegans. Please go to our website where you can find out more about the manufacturing of the flu injection, and then decide if the injection is more suited to your child. THE IM F LU VACCIN

Your consent will remain in place for the entire flu season. If your child misses a first visit, you do not need to complete a second form. PLEASE NOTE the flu vaccine will NOT be available to otherwise healthy children after December 15th at all, and so we urge you to return the consent form as soon as possible in case we are not able to visit your child's schools for a second visit this year.

You only need to complete one consent form for each child. If you later change your mind, please call your local team. If your child has this immunisation elsewhere after you have submitted the consent form, you MUST inform Vaccination UK rather than the school. You can also find informational videos on our YouTube channel, including subtitled versions for other languages. We understand that you may have questions about the vaccine. For more information, please go to our website, where you can find a list of FAQ’s, as well as details of our community catch up clinics.

Yours Faithfully, Your Local Immunisation Team Vaccination UK

We have also received information from the NHS about the MMR Vaccine, please click the links below for more information.

Safeguarding - Keeping Your Child Safe

What Parents & Carers need to know about

WhatsApp

It’s a description of encryption proscription! 🔏👀 The world’s most popular instant messaging service, WhatsApp has been appearing in the headlines even more often than usual recently over its opposition to aspects of the UK government’s Online Safety Bill ⚖

Encrypting messages to protect users’ privacy has undeniable merit, but it also poses obvious risks – especially to young people. Updated to reflect the newest version of WhatsApp, today’s #WakeUpWednesday guide brings trusted adults the latest essential info.

Clever Never Goes

CLEVER NEVER GOES has been developed to replace the out-dated ‘stranger danger’ approach.

Whilst child abduction is relatively uncommon, it’s important that children can recognise the potential signs of danger. Teaching children simply to avoid strangers doesn’t work. Most strangers will help rather than harm children. Conversely, it is often people known to children that pose the greatest threat.

Clever Never Goes moves the focus away from strangers and instead teaches children to recognise when someone (anyone) is asking them to go with them. We call this ‘Go Spotting’. In doing so, the programme aims to give children practical safety skills which they can use as they get older and become more independent.

It’s about safety – but it’s also about building children’s abilities to engage with the outside world, and giving parents the confidence to let them.
