Autumn No. 15, Friday 17th December 2021

Gospel of the Week

The Fourth Sunday of Advent - Year C

Mary’s Visit

Mary got up and went quickly to a town in the mountains of Judea. She went to Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the unborn baby inside Elizabeth jumped. Then Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She cried out in a loud voice,

“God has blessed you more than any other woman. And God has blessed the baby which you will give birth to. You are the mother of my Lord, and you have come to me! Why has something so good happened to me? When I heard your voice, the baby inside me jumped with joy. You are blessed because you believed what the Lord said to you would really happen.”

Luke 1:39-45

National Online Safety

Make the Most of the Online World this Christmas

From streaming classic family movies to video calling friends and relations, and from some good-natured competition (or cooperation) on video games to collaborating on your ultimate Christmas playlist, there are plenty of ways that your child’s devices can provide an embellishment – as opposed to a distraction – this festive season.

This week, we have ideas for how adults can spend time online with their child this holiday – without needing to crowbar devices out of young hands first. Eagle-eyed readers will notice that the title of each panel is taken from the lyrics of well-known Christmas hits: how many can you name? We hope the guide comes in handy … and, of course, that you have a merry Christmas!

Internet Safety at Christmas

Christmas is a time when many children receive devices capable of accessing the internet. Thinkuknow have produced three guides which may be of help to parents/carers this Christmas

  1. A parent's guide to privacy settings

  2. Gaming: what parents and carers need to know

  3. What is the Internet of Things (IoT)?

Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards

Well done to Class 1/2D who won the most Gold Awards this week.

Please keep an eye on your MarvellousMe app to see when your children receive their awards!

House Points

We are not announcing a winner today as we will be announcing the Autumn Term Winners on Tuesday.

Please keep an eye on your MarvellousMe app to see when your children receive their awards!

RE Team and Mini Vinnies

We now have our new RE team for 2021/2022 and our Mini Vinnies Group are up and running.

The RE team will assist with promoting Catholic life and Gospel values in the school while the Mini Vinnies focus is on how we can identify and help those who need it in our community.

The children are shown below.

The badges for the children have been ordered and should arrive early next week.

School Bags

Please use the recommended school bags for your children's belongings. The children do not have to bring much to school as everything is provided. Some children are brining in very large bags which are too cumbersome for the coat racks, please use the regular school bag available at My Clothing. Don't worry our logo, not the sample one shown, will be embroidered on the bag!

School Uniform

As always at the start of the year the children are coming in in their lovely new uniform. Unfortunately, some children take off their jumpers and are not entirely sure where they have left them! To help us return the jumpers to the correct children it is VERY helpful if you put your child's name in every item of school uniform, especially jumpers. If you would like to see the school uniform policy please click the button below.

This Week's Prayer

Dear Lord,

We thank you for your great love.

We thank you that you showed us that love by sending your son, Jesus, to save us.

In his name we pray,

Amen.

Student Social Worker

We are delighted to introduce our new student social worker, Cassandra Boateng, to you, below is an introduction written by her and also a link to some FAQs.

"Hello everyone, my name is Cassandra Boateng. I am a Student Social Worker studying at Anglia Ruskin University. I am currently on a 70 day placement at St Winefride's Catholic Primary School and feel delighted to work with and support the St Winefride’s community in any way that I can. I am here to listen, here to help and here to talk. My aims and targets are to gain knowledge and experience from children, staff and parents as this will help me in my future career as a social worker. As part of the Wellbeing team I will work closely with Mr Brown, Mrs Khanom and Ms Webb to promote the wellbeing of the children at St Winefride’s mainly through 1-to-1 and group support sessions. I have a keen interest in helping children develop friendship and social skills therefore I will be hoping to run a board games club to encourage these.

Furthermore, I am looking forward to working with the Designated Safeguard Leads, Special Needs Coordinator and the Parent Teachers Association to work together and help strengthen the pastoral support in school.

With the impact of the pandemic and how it has disproportionately affected some children the government and children's charities have invested ÂŁ12.6 million as a response and launched the in-schools social work scheme across England which I am proud to be a part of. For further information please contact the school and ask to speak to a member of the Wellbeing Team or email:

studendwellbeing@st-winefrides.newham.sch.uk"
