Gospel of the Week

The First Sunday of Advent - Year B

Stay awake, because you do not know when the master of the house is coming

“Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch. “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’ ”

Mark 13:33-37

 Nativity Performance

We will be holding the Nativity Performance in the School Hall this year. Due to the space constraints we will now be having the performance on two dates (15th and 18th December) to allow for all children, as well as any parents and carers, who wish to attend to be able to see the performance.

Please note it will be children from Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 who will be in the performance.

Children from Year 3 & 4 will be presenting the Easter Performance and children in Year 5 & 6 will be in the end of year production.

All parents and carers are welcome to attend all events regardless of whether their child is performing.

Advent Begins

This Sunday marks the beginning of Advent. There is a children's Mass in St Stephen's, as it is the first Sunday of the month, so please go along if you are able to.

Design a Christmas Bauble

The Christmas Bauble Competition is back! The children will have the opportunity to design their own Christmas Bauble and the winning design will be turned into a real bauble and given to the winner, so they may hang it on their own tree at home for Christmas.

 School Bags

Please note that the children should not bring rucksacks/backpacks into school as there is not enough space to store them safely. The children should have a book bag, either the one with the school logo (available from the school office or from My Clothing at £6.50 (+p&p) and will have the school logo on, not the example logo shown on the website) or a plain blue book bag. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

Safeguarding - Keeping Your Child Safe

What Parents & Carers need to know about

The Online Safety Act

Protecting children 🧒 Blocking illegal material ⛔ Removing harmful content on major platforms 📱 Those are the three main goals of the Online Safety Act, which entered UK law in October. While demanding more accountability from social media companies in particular, the act revises – rather than replaces – the current digital safeguarding duties placed on schools.

With changes including the creation of new criminal offences and greater options when raising an issue with a platform, there’s plenty for educators to take on board. Our #WakeUpWednesday guide this week provides a bite-size introduction to the Online Safety Act – and highlights some of the key points that schools need to be familiar with in the short term.

Clever Never Goes

CLEVER NEVER GOES has been developed to replace the out-dated ‘stranger danger’ approach.

Whilst child abduction is relatively uncommon, it’s important that children can recognise the potential signs of danger. Teaching children simply to avoid strangers doesn’t work. Most strangers will help rather than harm children. Conversely, it is often people known to children that pose the greatest threat.

Clever Never Goes moves the focus away from strangers and instead teaches children to recognise when someone (anyone) is asking them to go with them. We call this ‘Go Spotting’. In doing so, the programme aims to give children practical safety skills which they can use as they get older and become more independent.

It’s about safety – but it’s also about building children’s abilities to engage with the outside world, and giving parents the confidence to let them.

Picture News

You may have heard about the volcano in Iceland that is starting to erupt for the first time in 800 years, imagine if there were volcanoes in the UK, how would that make you feel?  This week's Picture News question is:

"What's it like to live through uncertain times?"

This Week's Prayer

Dear Jesus,

During this season when we look back and remember your birth, we are also watching and waiting for your return.

Amen.

God Bless You,

Our New Educational Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioner

Is My Child Too Ill For School?

It can be tricky deciding whether or not to keep your child off school, nursery or playgroup when they're unwell.

There are government guidelines for schools and nurseries about managing specific infectious diseases at GOV.UK. These say when children should be kept off school and when they shouldn't.

If you do keep your child at home, it's important to phone the school or nursery on the first day. Let them know that your child won't be in and give them the reason.

If your child is well enough to go to school but has an infection that could be passed on, such as a cold sore or head lice, let their teacher know.

Please click this link or the picture for more information from the NHS

Sickness

Please remember to call our School Office if your child is unwell and leave a message.

It is also important to remember that if you child is vomiting or has an upset stomach they should remain off school until 48 hours have passed since their last episode of illness.
