Gospel of the Week

The Thirty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year A

A Story About Three Servants

“The kingdom of heaven is like a man who was going to another place for a visit. Before he left, he talked with his servants. The man told them to take care of his things while he was gone. He decided how much each servant would be able to care for. He gave one servant five bags of money. He gave another servant two bags of money. And he gave a third servant one bag of money. Then the man left. The servant who got five bags went quickly to invest the money. The five bags of money earned five more. It was the same with the servant who had two bags of money. He invested the money and earned two more. But the servant who got one bag of money went out and dug a hole in the ground. Then he hid his master’s money in the hole.

“After a long time the master came home. He asked the servants what they did with his money. The servant who got five bags of money brought five more bags to the master. The servant said, ‘Master, you trusted me to care for five bags of money. So I used your five bags to earn five more.’ The master answered, ‘You did well. You are a good servant who can be trusted. You did well with small things. So I will let you care for much greater things. Come and share my happiness with me.’

“Then the servant who got two bags of money came to the master. The servant said, ‘Master, you gave me two bags of money to care for. So I used your two bags to earn two more.’ The master answered, ‘You did well. You are a good servant who can be trusted. You did well with small things. So I will let you care for much greater things. Come and share my happiness with me.’

“Then the servant who got one bag of money came to the master. The servant said, ‘Master, I knew that you were a hard man. You harvest things you did not plant. You gather crops where you did not sow any seed. So I was afraid. I went and hid your money in the ground. Here is the bag of money you gave me.’ The master answered, ‘You are a bad and lazy servant! You say you knew that I harvest things I did not plant, and that I gather crops where I did not sow any seed? So you should have put my money in the bank. Then, when I came home, I would get my money back with interest.’

“So the master told his other servants, ‘Take the bag of money from that servant and give it to the servant who has ten bags of money. Everyone who uses what he has will get more. He will have much more than he needs. But the one who does not use what he has will have everything taken away from him.’ Then the master said, ‘Throw that useless servant outside, into the darkness! There people will cry and grind their teeth with pain."

 Nativity Performance

We will be holding the Nativity Performance in the School Hall this year. Due to the space constraints we will now be having the performance on two dates to allow for all children  as well as any parents and carers who wish to attend to be able to see the performance.

Please note it will be children from Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 who will be in the performance.

Children from Year 3 & 4 will be presenting the Easter Performance and children in Year 5 & 6 will be in the end of year production.

All parents and carers are welcome to attend all events regardless of whether their child is performing.

Home Work

Just a reminder that children should only complete the homework set and not fill in additional pages in their homework books. All homework books should be returned on the day set by your child's class teacher or by the Wednesday of the following week at the latest.

Educational Visits

There have been lots of exciting Educational Visits in the past couple of weeks. Years 1 & 2 have been to the cinema and Year 6 have been to visit KPMG and also taken part in the Citizenship workshops at the Tate and Lyle Factory in Silvertown. More cinema trips are planned and Year 5 & 6 all went to the cinema too!

Year 3 & 4 will be off to Cineworld and the Year 6 children will soon be attending the Olympic Swimming Pool for their Swimming lessons.

 Christmas Decorations

If you have any spare Christmas decorations looking for a home, we would be delighted to receive them, to make the school look nice and festive for the Advent Season.

 School Bags

Please note that the children should not bring rucksacks/backpacks into school as there is not enough space to store them safely. The children should have a book bag, either the one with the school logo (available from the school office or from My Clothing at £6.50 (+p&p) and will have the school logo on, not the example logo shown on the website) or a plain blue book bag. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

School Dinner Menu

Please click the picture or the button below to see the menu the children will be choosing their meals from next week. Next week is Autumn Menu Week 2.

House Point Championship

Another incredibly close result this week with only 60 house points separating 1st and 4th place! That is just 12 tokens difference, so congratulations to St George on just coming top of the table. Thank you to the House Captains and Vice Captains for collecting, counting and returning the tokens!

School Uniform

Please see the updated Uniform Policy below. We would strongly recommend purchasing non branded items, such as trousers, skirts, shirts, blouses, socks and shoes from supermarkets or other clothing retailers, many of whom will be having return to school sales. We will be carrying out regular uniform checks over the course of the year.

Assembly Videos

Each week the Class presentation during the Achievement Assembly is recorded and then posted on our Vimeo site. Please click the button below to go to our Vimeo site and see the videos!

The Class 4 Assembly from today will be uploaded by Monday.

Safeguarding - Keeping Your Child Safe

What Parents & Carers need to know about

Smart TVs

Smart TVs are the future of home entertainment … but how safe is that future? 📺🤔 The percentage of UK households that own a smart TV has leapt from 11% to 74% in less than ten years – and that proportion is only expected to increase further as more viewers discover the various benefits of these sophisticated systems 👀

While the technology is impressive, fun and increasingly affordable, the flip side is that the number of people (especially young ones) who need to be aware of their risks has risen commensurately. This week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide outlines how to avoid some common smart TV hazards, so that you can relax a little when your children do.

Clever Never Goes

CLEVER NEVER GOES has been developed to replace the out-dated ‘stranger danger’ approach.

Whilst child abduction is relatively uncommon, it’s important that children can recognise the potential signs of danger. Teaching children simply to avoid strangers doesn’t work. Most strangers will help rather than harm children. Conversely, it is often people known to children that pose the greatest threat.

Clever Never Goes moves the focus away from strangers and instead teaches children to recognise when someone (anyone) is asking them to go with them. We call this ‘Go Spotting’. In doing so, the programme aims to give children practical safety skills which they can use as they get older and become more independent.

It’s about safety – but it’s also about building children’s abilities to engage with the outside world, and giving parents the confidence to let them.

This Week's Prayer

Dear Father,

Help us to use the talents that you have given us to be what you intended for us to be.

In Jesus' name we pray.

Amen.

Is My Child Too Ill For School?

It can be tricky deciding whether or not to keep your child off school, nursery or playgroup when they're unwell.

There are government guidelines for schools and nurseries about managing specific infectious diseases at GOV.UK. These say when children should be kept off school and when they shouldn't.

If you do keep your child at home, it's important to phone the school or nursery on the first day. Let them know that your child won't be in and give them the reason.

If your child is well enough to go to school but has an infection that could be passed on, such as a cold sore or head lice, let their teacher know.

Please click this link or the picture for more information from the NHS

Sickness

Please remember to call our School Office if your child is unwell and leave a message.

It is also important to remember that if you child is vomiting or has an upset stomach they should remain off school until 48 hours have passed since their last episode of illness.
