Gospel of the Week

The Twenty Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year C

A Lost Sheep and a Lost Coin

Many tax collectors and “sinners” came to listen to Jesus. The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began to complain: “Look! This man welcomes sinners and even eats with them!”

Then Jesus told them this story: “Suppose one of you has 100 sheep, but he loses one of them. Then he will leave the other 99 sheep alone and go out and look for the lost sheep. The man will keep on searching for the lost sheep until he finds it. And when he finds it, the man is very happy. He puts it on his shoulders and goes home. He calls to his friends and neighbours and says, ‘Be happy with me because I found my lost sheep!’ In the same way, I tell you there is much joy in heaven when one sinner changes his heart. There is more joy for that one sinner than there is for 99 good people who don’t need to change.

“Suppose a woman has ten silver coins, but she loses one of them. She will light a lamp and clean the house. She will look carefully for the coin until she finds it. And when she finds it, she will call her friends and neighbours and say, ‘Be happy with me because I have found the coin that I lost!’ In the same way, there is joy before the angels of God when one sinner changes his heart.”

Luke 15:1-10

A message from Mrs Brosnan

Welcome back to all our children, parents/carers and staff.

I hope you all had a lovely (hot) summer break and manged to get some rest and relaxation. It is always such a pleasure to see the children's smiling faces as they come back into school after the holidays and they have settled really well into their new classes.

This week's newsletter will be shorter than is often the case due to the sad events of yesterday, however I hope you all have a peaceful, healthy and happy year ahead.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

As we are sure you are aware, Queen Elizabeth sadly passed away yesterday, Thursday 8th September. At St Winefride's we have many fond memories of Her Majesty, with our children meeting and performing for her on many occasions, most notably as part of her Christmas Message just a few years ago.

Schools and other education settings, at times of national events and loss such as this, have a particular role to play. DfE guidance (issued last night) confirmed the expectation that schools, settings and other services will be open as usual over the coming days. It is important for children to have a sense of routine and life carrying on.

We have now entered a period of national mourning that will continue until the end of the State Funeral. Guidance providing the public, businesses and institutions with advice on the period of national mourning will be issued by the Cabinet Office and available on GOV.UK.

Once details of the funeral are confirmed by the Royal Household, there will be further national and local guidance and information, for example whether there will be a special bank holiday.

At St Winefride's the children will take part in a special Picture News assembly, which is also available below.

We have been requested by the London Borough of Newham to let you know that you may like to consider taking your children to Borough’s Proclamation Ceremony. This event is the formal proclamation of the ascension of His Majesty King Charles III in the Borough and will made by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant and the Mayor, from the balcony of Stratford Town Hall at 2p.m. on Sunday 11th September. This historic event will be the first in 70 years.

This week the question is: "Who was Queen Elizabeth II?"

School Ping - New Messaging Service

Today, if the school has your email address, you will have received a message inviting you to join School Ping, our new messaging and payment service. MarvellousMe will be available until the end of the month and we would encourage you to download the Memory Book as soon as possible, if you would like to do so. Going forward all school messages will be sent via School Ping, as well as booking Parent/Carer information meetings and payments for the Breakfast Club etc.

Coffee Morning and Assemblies

Coffee Mornings will recommence next Friday, 16th September at 8.45am

Class presentations at assembly will start on Friday 23rd September at 2.30pm with a presentation by Class 6.

A full timetable of assemblies will be provided in next weeks' newsletter and the individual assemblies will be on our school calendar shortly.

This week the question is: "What can we do if we feel things aren't fair?"

School Uniform

Please see our updated Uniform Policies below

If you have any uniform which your children have outgrown and is still wearable, please donate it to the school as we will be having regular sales of pre worn uniform throughout the year. The dates of these uniform sales will be advertised in the newsletter.

School Bags

Some of our classrooms are a little tight for space, so please use the school issue school bag wherever possible. The children do not need to bring very much to school and these bags are more than roomy enough for all their things.

What Parents & Carers need to know about

Roblox

Over the past decade, Roblox has become one of the world’s most popular platforms for young gamers. It’s certainly among the most commercially successful: during one three-month period in 2020, for example, players spent a staggering £200 million on in-game purchases. The possible financial costs, however, aren’t the only area to have caused concern.

How are some sections of Roblox unsuitable for young players? Why aren’t private or VIP servers a water-tight defence against strangers? Who are ODers and why should children be wary of them? Why is it a good idea to disable the private messaging function? Updated for 2022, our guide to Roblox has the answers.

This Week's Prayer

Dear Father,

We are thank you that Jesus came to seek and save the lost. We thank you for the parables that he told to remind us that we belong to you. In Jesus' name we pray.

Amen.

We would also ask you to keep the Queen and her family in your prayers at this time.

God Bless You,

Mrs Brosnan
