Gospel of the Week

The Twenty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year B

Jesus Heals a Deaf and Mute Man

Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee and into the region of the Decapolis. There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged Jesus to place his hand on him.

After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit and touched the man’s tongue. He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him,

“Ephphatha!”

(which means “Be opened!”). At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.

Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone. But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. People were overwhelmed with amazement.

“He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

Mark 7:31-37

A Message from Mrs Brosnan

Welcome back to all of our children, parents/carers and staff!

We hope you all had a lovely summer break and managed to get some rest and relaxation.

It has been such a pleasure to see the children’s smiling faces coming back into school over the past two days and they have already settled really well into their new classes.

We hope that this year will bring much more stability and allow us to resume some of the wonderful activities and events we have not been able to have over the past 18 months.

Although we are now returning to something that resembles a more normal school life and children no longer have to remain solely in class bubbles, we are continuing with some aspects introduced during the pandemic as a precautionary measure.

For this half term we will continue to have the staggered start and end of school days to avoid too much congestion at the school gate. The school day times therefore remain as:

Years 1 and 2 - 8.30 - 15.00

Years 3 and 4 - 8.45 - 15.15

Years 5 and 6 - 9.00 - 15.30

Nursery and Reception children will enter and exit the school via the front office at the following times:

Reception children - 8.45 - 15.15

Nursery children - Am session 8.30 - 11.30

Pm session 12.30 - 15.30

All day session 8.30 - 15.30

As before if you have more than one child you can bring them together at the earlier time and collect them at the later time.

We will also continue with our hand washing and sanitising routines throughout the day.

Just for your information regarding any positive Covid test results and school attendance, the latest DfE guidance states the following:

Household contacts who are not required to self-isolate from 16 August

From 16 August, you will not be required to self-isolate if you live in the same household as someone with COVID-19 and any of the following apply:

  • you are fully vaccinated

  • you are below the age of 18 years 6 months

  • you have taken part in or are currently part of an approved COVID-19 vaccine trial

  • you are not able to get vaccinated for medical reasons

Children and young people aged under 18 years 6 months who usually attend an education or childcare setting and who have been identified as a close contact should continue to attend the setting as normal. They do not need to wear a face covering within the setting, but it is expected and recommended that these are worn when travelling on public or dedicated transport.

We look forward to what will hopefully be a peaceful, healthy and happy year ahead!

Have a lovely weekend

Mrs Brosnan

PE Days

The children will be having PE on the following days each week:

Y1 & Y2: Tuesday am & pm

Y3 & Y4: Wednesday pm & Thursday pm

Y5 & Y6: Monday pm & Friday pm

For the moment all children may continue to come to school in their PE Kits, as outlined in the school uniform list.
