Aspire and Flourish
Friday 2nd October
This week's Gospel, we hear Jesus' teaching about accountability and those who are active and righteous gaining the Kingdom of Heaven.
Value of the term: Forgiveness
This week Year Four have enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Botanical Gardens. I'm sure that there was lots of exciting learning taking place and I can't wait to see what the children bring back to their writing from their visit. We also had a visit from Peter Burrows from Posh!
Our Junior Chaplains have worked hard to continue to lead prayer and liturgy within their classrooms. In the coming weeks they will be working on planning and delivering Celebration of the Word sessions to the class and evaluating their success. Exciting times! Children across school have also been busy working on their Stewardship projects; I'm looking forward to seeing the finished results in a few weeks!
As a reminder, please ensure that children come off of their bikes and scooters as they enter the site by the St John Fisher gates. It can be really congested in the mornings and lots of scooters and bikes could cause an accident. Thank you for your continued support with this and your support with use of the car park.

October half term begins
Through story-based learning, the children will explore farm life, sharing, helping others and cause and effect, while developing their communication, attention, listening and engagement skills.
This week, we have been learning all about Goldilocks and the Three Bears! We have enjoyed exploring the story and retelling it in different ways. We have also been learning about the life cycle of a plant and had lots of fun planting our own seeds. We talked about what plants need to grow and how we can care for them. In maths, we have been developing our number skills through fun and practical activities. It has been a busy week full of learning, exploring and fun!
This week the children have been learning how to write their name. We looked at how to hold a pencil, how to sit correctly on our chair and how to form the letters in their name. The children have learnt to read, recognise and write the next three phonics sounds ‘d’ ‘t’ and ‘i’. In RE we explored the idea that God invites all of us to be part of his family through Baptism and how we can look after each other.
This week, in English the children have been writing about how to be a good friend. The children are writing simple sentences independently with a focus of using capital letters, finger spaces and a full stop. In maths, the children have been using the greater than, less than and equal symbols to compare numbers within 10. In science, the children have been learning about animal diets and learning new vocabulary - herbivore, omnivore and carnivore. In art, we have continued to learn about Kandinsky. The children created a Kandinsky piece of art work. They look great!
This week, in English we have been learning about adjectives and using them to describe a castle. In maths, we have been exploring number lines. The children have been looking at 10s and ones on a number line and are starting to estimate. In Science, we have been comparing materials by their properties- waterproof, rigid, soft and absorbent. In History, we have been learning about the Queen and created a timeline to explore the key events in her life.
This week in Year 3, we have been exploring speech in English. Through immersive activities, the children have been learning to recognise speech in texts and beginning to use it in their own writing.
In maths, we have been using Dienes (base-ten equipment), part-whole models and expanded form to represent and partition numbers. The children are becoming increasingly confident in their understanding of place value.
In science, we have been closely observing our bean seed as it germinates and grows. We also carried out an experiment using cabbage, celery and food colouring to investigate how water travels through plants. The colour changes helped the children see how water moves up the stem and into the leaves.
In art, our BeWILDerwood creatures are taking shape, and we look forward to finishing them by the end of the week.
In RE, we have been learning about God’s creation and reflecting on how we can care for our world and the people and animals who share it.
Year 4 have had a fabulous time at Cambridge Botanical Garden, where they brought their learning to life through an exciting exploration of tropical plants. The visit gave the children the opportunity to see a wide variety of plants in a real botanical setting and to make connections between their classroom learning and the world around them.
As they explored, the children observed the features of tropical plants, discussed where they grow and considered how they are adapted to their environments. They enjoyed looking closely at the plants and sharing their ideas with one another.
The visit provided an inspiring starting point for the children’s next piece of writing. Using their observations and new knowledge, they will write a non-chronological report about tropical plants, which they will address to the botanical garden. Their reports will include factual information, carefully organised sections and appropriate vocabulary to inform the reader.
It was a fantastic opportunity for Year 4 to learn beyond the classroom, develop their curiosity and use first-hand experiences to support their English and science learning.
Year 5 have had a busy and productive week! In Maths, we have been adding and subtracting numbers up to five digits and working hard during our daily arithmetic sessions to improve our speed, accuracy and confidence with calculations.
In RE, we have been exploring the connections between the law and the Ten Commandments, reflecting on what these mean in our own lives and how we can make good choices. We have also been thinking about how we can demonstrate the Catholic Social Teaching principle of Stewardship by caring for God’s creation and taking responsibility for the world around us.
In English, we have started exploring the fabulous book Armstrong by Torben Kuhlmann, which tells the story of an adventurous little mouse with a big dream! The story has inspired us to develop ideas for our own narratives. We have also been securing our understanding of determiners, common nouns and proper nouns as we begin to build increasingly interesting expanded noun phrases to bring our characters and settings to life.
Well done, Year 5, for another week of enthusiasm, effort and learning!
It has been another productive and engaging week in Year 6! In English, we have continued developing the skills needed for our upcoming London Blitz setting description, focusing on using ‘show, not tell’ and expanded noun phrases to create vivid descriptions and atmosphere. In Maths, we have reached the end of our place value unit, exploring rounding, comparing numbers and negative numbers. Be sure to ask your child about their post-unit assessment score and how they feel they have progressed! In RE, we have been learning about John the Baptist and reflecting on the Nicene Creed, considering what its words mean to us as Catholics today. Finally, in History, we have continued our study of World War Two, focusing on how the war affected children and their everyday lives, including the challenges and changes they experienced during this important period of history.
We’re pleased to let you know that we now have a Kitt Allergy Box available onsite in our dining hall.
The box contains essential items to help support children with allergies in the event of an allergic reaction. It will be kept in the dining hall and will be easily accessible to all staff.
Please be assured that our usual allergy procedures and safeguards remain in place, and staff will continue to follow our established protocols to keep children safe.
From Monday 5th October 2026, children with allergies who we hold medication for will now wear allergy wristbands in the dining hall during lunch.
