This coming Sunday's Gospel reading reminds of Jesus' most important commandment: love your neighbour as you would love yourself and love God. This is such a simple commandment to live by, but one we all need to turn to God for and ask for His help!
Value of the term: Forgiveness
Wow! What an incredibly busy and action-packed first half term we have had. It has been a joy to see how well the children are responding to lots of the new teaching strategies that our staff are using. We have invested lots of time and energy into ensuring that teaching and learning is of the highest standards and I am so pleased to see the impact of this on the children's learning already.
After half term, I would like to remind parents and carers that all children will need to be collected from clubs after school.
Congratulations to St George's house who have won the most house points this half term! 🎉 They are celebrating with a non-uniform day today.
We wish you all a restful half term and look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 2nd November.

This week, we will enjoy ‘Leaf Man’ by Lois Ehlert and explore the changes that happen during autumn. The children will develop their communication skills by naming or pointing to autumn objects, making choices and learning new words. Through sensory activities and outdoor exploration, the children will discover the sights, sounds and textures of autumn and develop their understanding of the natural world.
We explored the story of Beegu by looking carefully at the illustrations and creating our own beautiful collages. The children enjoyed using their creativity to bring Beegu to life and talking about the different parts of the story. We are so proud that the children can now confidently retell the story in their own words, remembering the key events and talking about the characters.
In phonics this week we have been learning the sounds ‘o, c and k’. In writing the children are learning to hear the initial sound in a word, find it on their sound mat and then write the sound. It is very exciting to see the children start their writing journey. We have been looking at different ways to make the number 4.
In RE we went on a walk around the school grounds, looking and listening to God’s creation. We then talked about what is man-made and God made. The children then thought about how we can all care for our world.
Last week, Year 1 went to Hammerton Zoo. We had a great time! The children were able to use their science knowledge and were able to recognise animal groups and we talked about what the animals ate.
This week, The children have continued to use adjectives in their writing to describe characters and settings. We are becoming more confident when writing confidently. In maths we have been developing our knowledge of part-whole models and we are now looking at using a bar model to help find and write all the addition fact families. In RE we have continued to learn about God’s creation and how to care for the planet. We went outside and did some litter picking and then made feeders.
This week we have started to look at addition and subtraction in maths. We have been looking at relating facts, such as if we know 5+5=10 we know 10-5=5. In English, we have been creating our own fact files about castles. In RE, we have been sharing our learning about Baptism with children in EYFS. We were really excited to be the teachers and visit their classroom. We also have delivered Celebration of the Word in our classrooms. The children planned and led this. We based this on our learning of Noah’s Ark.
In English, we have moved on to poetry, while in Reading, we are still enjoying Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
In Maths, we are focusing on adding and subtracting ones, tens and hundreds from three-digit numbers, using place value charts with counters or base-ten equipment.
In Science, we wrote our final entries in our ‘bulb diaries’ and explored pollination and fertilisation in plants.
We also held our own assembly on Stewardship, a principle of Catholic Social Teaching. The children proudly shared their beautiful posters and spoke about what they had learned about caring for God’s creation.
The children also had the opportunity to decorate a poppy for Remembrance Day. In PE, we are developing our tennis skills, and in RE, we are learning about Creation and Covenant.
In Year 4, we have been busy producing some great pieces of writing. We have been creating amazing non-chronological reports, learning how to organise information clearly and share facts in an engaging way.During maths , we have begun exchanging in addition and subtraction. The children have worked hard and have done really well with this new learning. We have also created beautiful posters to show our knowledge of our RE topic, Creation and Covenant. The children enjoyed sharing their understanding through colourful and informative designs. Year 4 presented our Catholic Social Teaching assembly, which the children greatly enjoyed. Year 4 have planned a Celebration of the Word. The children helped to plan it and will present it independently, showing confidence, responsibility and careful preparation
It has been another busy and productive week in Year 5! The children have continued to develop their skills across the curriculum, showing creativity, perseverance and enthusiasm in their learning.
This week, the children have been planning, drafting and editing their own adventure stories about an adventurous mouse. They have been developing their descriptions, using expanded noun phrases and making thoughtful vocabulary choices to bring their characters and settings to life. We have also been focusing on editing our work to improve the quality of our writing and ensure that our finished stories are the very best they can be. We look forward to sharing their wonderful writing!
In maths, we have been exploring arrays and their connections to multiplication, as well as investigating odd and even numbers. The children have also been learning how the place value of digits changes when multiplying numbers by 10 and 100. We have been encouraging them to explain their mathematical thinking and recognise patterns to deepen their understanding.
In RE, we have explored the theological virtues of faith, hope and love, alongside the cardinal virtues of prudence, justice, fortitude and temperance. The children have been thinking about what these virtues mean and, importantly, how they can put them into practice in their everyday lives. We have discussed how our choices, actions and relationships can help us to become more thoughtful, courageous, fair and caring members of our school community and beyond.
This week marked our final swimming lesson of the half-term. The children have worked incredibly hard, and it has been lovely to see the progress they are making in their confidence and swimming abilities. We are very proud of their perseverance, determination and willingness to keep practising and improving. Well done, Year 5!
We have made it to half-term, and what a fantastic start to Year 6 it has been! We are incredibly proud of the children's hard work, positive attitudes and determination throughout these first few weeks. They have certainly earned a well-deserved break! In English, we have been developing our understanding of conjunctions and putting our creativity to work as we begin planning our very own World War Two radio scripts. In Maths, we have been exploring square and cube numbers, as well as tackling the challenges of multiplying four-digit numbers by two-digit numbers and using short division. In RE, we have been learning about the importance of Baptism, making links to Genesis 3 and the Nicene Creed, and reflecting on what these teachings mean for us as Catholics. We have also begun thinking about the significance of Remembrance Day, creating our own poppies as a symbol of remembrance and gratitude for those who have sacrificed so much. A huge well done to everyone for a brilliant first half-term. We hope you all enjoy a restful and enjoyable break, ready for another exciting half-term of learning!
