Literacy Fun Run - A Fantastic Success!
Last week, classes from Years 1–6 put on their running shoes and took to Moormead Park for our first ever Literacy Fun Run - all in support of our school library and the Malala Fund. We’re thrilled to share that we’ve already raised over £4,500! It’s not too late to contribute - our JustGiving page will remain open for another week for any final donations.
There was a wonderful buzz in the air as children, teachers, and families joined together to run, jog, hop, skip and dance, and cheer each other on. Special star appearances from Mrs Blomley and Miss Downes - who delighted everyone dressed as T-Rexes - added plenty of laughter, with children gleefully chasing their tails around the park!
A huge thank you to Miss Mowbray for her brilliant organisation, and to all the parents, relatives and friends who supported the event - whether by donating, running alongside the children, or cheering from the sidelines.
We also had volunteers counting laps for house colours - the house that completed the most laps will be announced in Monday’s assembly.
In the same spirit of celebrating stories and imagination, we were thrilled to welcome author-illustrator (and St Stephen's parent) Natalia Shaloshvili to school that afternoon. Natalia shared her beautiful book 'Bear' with Years 1, 2 and 3, inspiring our young readers and writers as part of our ongoing celebration of literature and creativity.
It was such a joyful community event from start to finish - and what a fantastic way to celebrate our love of books, fresh air and teamwork!
Year 6 at Hooke Court
This week, our Year 6 children went on a two-night residential trip to Hooke Court, a study centre in Dorset. Henry I, of Obama Class, is going to tell you all about it:
Hooke Court was an incredible experience as the trip taught us many life skills that you can’t learn in a classroom. These skills included things like orienteering and team-building exercises. The venue was incredibly special, as it was home to the remnants of several archaeological digs that have taken place in recent years.
The amazing opportunities were thanks to the fantastic staff on the residential (Mrs Morrison, Mrs Brown, Miss Kondoska, Mrs Hunt and Miss Cooper) and the brilliant staff who work at Hooke Court, who provided activities such as exploring the trenches, banqueting, singing, cooking, having bonfires, and serving an incredible range of fresh food every day.
Personally, my favourite part of the trip was wading through mud, thigh-high, in the trenches. Day to day, it was one of the most thrilling experiences of my life! The activities came and went at pace which meant that, although it was busy, there was always something fun to do. The beautiful Hooke countryside made the whole trip even more special.
I would like to thank my teachers again for the privilege of going on such a fantastically fun residential.
Year 4 Borough Football Champions
On Thursday, Mr Cain and Mr Wilson had the privilege of selecting ten talented players to represent St Stephen’s in the Year 4 Borough Football Tournament, hosted by Richmond & Kew FC. With over 20 schools taking part, the competition was fierce from the very start.
Placed in a challenging group with East Sheen, St John’s and St James’s, our team got off to a strong start with a 2–0 win against St John’s, followed by a hard-fought 1–1 draw with St James’s. Despite a narrow 1–0 defeat to East Sheen, this was arguably our best performance of the group stage - and it earned us a place in the Cup competition as one of the top two teams.
Confidence grew as the boys beat Deer Park 2–0 in the quarter-finals and clinched a dramatic 2–1 victory over TPA in the semi-finals, scoring in the last minute. In a thrilling final against East Sheen, the team showed real determination and flair, dominating the match and striking the woodwork twice before securing a well-deserved 1–0 win!
The boys returned to school as Borough Champions, greeted by a very proud Mrs Bachour. Huge congratulations to Ben, Kai, Louis, Harrison, Harry, Neithan, Teddy, Adam, Thaw, and Player of the Tournament Isaac. You are all a credit to the school - what a team!
