Starting school is a huge milestone, and this week we were thrilled to open our doors to our brand-new Reception cohort. The children have been arriving in small groups through our staggered start, beginning with the very first group on Wednesday.
It is a big step going into big school for the first time, but our Reception team has had a wonderful time welcoming the children and helping them settle into their new environment. The focus of these first few days has been all about building confidence and learning key everyday routines - discovering where to hang coats, finding carpet spots, locating the toilets, and getting to know the trusted adults who are here to support them every step of the way.
The children have jumped straight into learning, exploring, and creating. They have spent time getting used to the outdoor learning area, singing songs together, practicing writing their names, and enjoying quiet story times. A highlight of the week was reading The Colour Monster Goes to School, which inspired the children to create their very own colourful monsters using paint sticks. They even tried out their first 'Dough Disco', pinching, squeezing, and rolling playdough to build up their fine motor skills through play!
It has been a busy, exciting, and joy-filled first week. We are so proud of how brilliantly the children have settled in. Welcome to our school family!
Our Year 6 pupils are taking part in Bikeability, the national cycle training programme designed to give children the practical skills and confidence to ride safely on today's roads.
Guided by qualified instructors, the children are mastering key road safety skills, including essential bike and helmet checks, clear signaling, hazard awareness, and navigating junctions safely. As they prepare for the transition to secondary school, these sessions provide a fantastic boost to their independence, health, and risk-judgement skills.
How you can help at home:
Ensure your child's helmet fits securely and both bike brakes work properly.
Encourage them to keep practicing their signals and shoulder checks on weekend family rides.
