Welcome Back!
We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable summer break. It has been wonderful to welcome the children back to school this week and to see them settling so well into their new classes and beginning to get to know their teachers.
A very special welcome goes to our new Reception children and their families - we are delighted to have you join our school community.
We’re looking forward to the term ahead and all the opportunities it will bring as we continue building each other up in love and learning.
A Flying Start for Year 6
What a joy it has been having Year 6 back in school! They have returned full of energy, smiles and stories, and it already feels like they have never been away. From the very first morning, they impressed us with their calm and sensible lining up.
Our classes have jumped straight into a busy timetable. M-Tech has been a big hit, with plenty of musical experiments (some of which definitely count as “unique” sound effects). In French, we are learning about different sports, and the children have loved trying out new vocabulary, especially when they can say their favourite sport in the most dramatic accent they can manage.
We are also busy preparing for our residential at Hooke Court, which is already generating lots of excitement. The children are full of questions and there have been some very serious discussions about which snacks are most essential for the trip. On top of that, we have been getting homework routines organised. The class are showing more independence already, although a reminder about when homework is due is still very helpful.
All in all, it has been a brilliant start to the year. Year 6 are working hard, throwing themselves into everything and making us proud every single day.
A Wonderful Start in Reception
After a week of enjoyable home visits from our teaching staff, we were delighted to welcome our new Reception children into school over three days this week — Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
The children have settled in beautifully. They’ve been enjoying getting to know one another, exploring their new learning environment, and becoming familiar with the routines of the school day.
It’s such a joy to have you all here - welcome to our school community!
Marvellous Mistakes and More in Year 4
Year 4 have made a fantastic start to the new school year! In just the first week, they have already been busy with lots of learning across the curriculum.
In English, the children have been sharpening their sentence structure and punctuation skills, while in Maths they’ve been sharing and learning from each other’s 'marvellous mistakes.' St Stephen's children know that mistakes are a really important part of learning. When we notice them, talk about them, and allow others to learn from them too, that’s when growth really happens.
In PSHE, they’ve been thinking about who their trusted adults are, both at home and at school, using the 'five-a-hand' model to name ten people altogether. They’ve also been exploring habitats in Science and enjoying football and tag rugby in Games.
Year 4 are already looking forward to the year ahead - and are especially excited about their first residential trip to PGL later in the year!
