Thursday was a big day for our Year 5/6 footballers - the long-awaited tournament - and they really rose to the occasion. From the very first whistle, the team set out to stay organised, work hard for each other, and make the most of any chances that came their way.
And they truly did themselves proud. What stood out most wasn’t just the football, but the heart, teamwork, and sheer determination they played with. It was a joy to watch, and everyone involved should feel extremely pleased with what they achieved.
Every player gave absolutely everything. They challenged bravely, supported one another, and made life tough for every team they came up against.
In the first group stage, their focus and resilience shone through, finishing second with three 0–0 draws and a well-earned 1–0 win. Their solid defending continued into the cup group stage, where they picked up another 1–0 win and two hard-fought draws, with just one 2–0 loss along the way.
Although they finished joint second and narrowly missed out on the semi-finals, the pride we have in this team is huge. Their effort, commitment, and brilliant team spirit were evident from start to finish. What a fantastic day for them - and for the school!
A huge well done to Spencer, Rafe, Ben, Noah, Ato, Henry, Niamh - and a special congratulations to our Player of the Day, Ruzgar, who was exceptional throughout.
Our league fixture on Monday - bring it on!
On Wednesday, our Year 3/4 basketball team took part in a tournament with all the local schools, hosted by Richmond Knights at Christ School.
Basketball is a real favourite at St Stephen’s, with clubs available for children in Years 3–6, as well as weekly lunchtime sessions as part of our lunch sports provision.
The team started brilliantly, winning our local derby against Orleans 14–0. This was followed by a much tougher test in our second game, where we battled hard to beat Lowther 4–2. Our only loss of the day came against the eventual winners, Sheen Mount—who, don’t forget, are a three-form entry school—so our team did an amazing job, narrowly losing 4–2.
Next, we faced Barnes and secured an 8–6 win in overtime, which confirmed our position as 2nd in the group and gave us the chance to play for 3rd place overall. And the team delivered! A strong performance saw us beat St Mary Mags 4–2.
The team grew in confidence and skill throughout the tournament and, on another day, could easily have earned a place in the final. We are incredibly proud of all of you.
Well done to Grace, Lotte, Kai, Noah, Thomas and Louis.
A special mention goes to Isaac, Benjamin, Neithan and Kosta, who received MVP awards from Richmond Knights for their outstanding contributions to the team.
Fantastic effort, everyone!
Last week we shared the highlights from our pupils’ fantastic efforts at the Borough Sports Cross Country in Bushy Park. This week, the official results have come through - and they are well worth celebrating!
We’re thrilled to announce that our boys’ team placed 3rd out of 33 teams, an outstanding achievement and a real credit to all their hard work in training.
Our girls’ team also ran brilliantly, finishing 16th out of 32 teams in an extremely competitive field. Even more impressive is that four of our six runners were from Year 5, in what was a combined Year 5 and 6 competition.
Thanks to these strong performances, our school finished 5th overall out of 28 schools - a superb result for the whole team.
A huge well done to all the children who took part. Your commitment, effort, and enthusiasm continue to make us proud.
Does your child love football and want to improve their skills? We're excited to share details about the Brentford FC Football Development Programme. This high-quality programme welcomes young people of all abilities (and those showing potential) to receive excellent coaching at top facilities from FA and UEFA qualified staff.
A great feature is the structured development match programme against other professional club trusts (like Chelsea and West Ham), which takes place during holidays, ensuring no conflict with existing 'grassroots football' commitments. If you think your child might be interested in this player-centred pathway, you can find more information or register interest via their trial waiting list form on the Brentford FC website.
