TAG RUGBY TEAM REACHES BOROUGH SEMIS

Well done to the boys and girls in our Year Five and Six tag rugby team who played in the Borough competition this week. Out of forty teams competing, the young taggers missed the final by a whisker, finishing in the fabulous final four. Semi final glory! Many thanks to Coaches Downes and Cooper who coached and supported the players during a great day of competition at Richmond Athletic Ground.

ACTING UP FOR LAMDA

We checked in with Sam Davis, the principal of the Elizabeth Samuels Drama School, to find out about our cohort of children who have recently taken their Lamda exams. Here is his report ...

We are so proud of our LAMDA students who have worked extremely hard all year. Each summer, an official LAMDA examiner is sent to St Stephen’s where they watch each child’s performance. They are graded on speaking with confidence, the ability to communicate the meaning of their piece and making sure they are loud enough to be heard.

LAMDA students in Year One to Year Four recite a poem and then demonstrate their conversation skills by having a conversation with the examiner. Younger children discuss their favourite toy and picture and older children talk about their favourite book.

In Year Five and Six, students look at the acting syllabus and learn a monologue using facial expressions, vocal skills and an understanding of their character. They then chat with the examiner about their characters feelings and appearance.

We also want to give a special mention to our two Musical Theatre stars Luke Jamieson and Saskia Cormack who have both taken the musical syllabus. Saskia also gained a distinction in her Grade 2 exam in the summer which involved performing two songs!

A staggering 97% of students achieved a distinction and we couldn’t be more proud.

If you are interested in signing up for LAMDA classes at St Stephen’s, we have a limited amount of spaces this term. Classes take place during the school day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
