Music at St Stephen's
At St Stephen's, music is a joyous and integral part of our week. Rooted in our values, we celebrate and prioritise music to help us connect with each other and nurture creativity. From singing assemblies and collective worship, to our class music lessons with specialist teaching from Richmond Music Trust, there is so much opportunity to make music. Here is a little snapshot of our music in action:
Year 3 - Strings
In Year 3 we have been learning about the string family. We are learning to care for our instruments, and have looked at the different ways we can play: bowing and pizzicato, where we pluck the strings with our fingers, creating a shorter, more percussive sound. We're looking forward taking our instruments home later in the year.
Year 6 - MTech
We have been loving MTech so far in Year 6. During our lessons, we have been working in pairs to create music digitally using all of the skills we have garnered throughout our time at St Stephen's. So far, we have been working on our rhythm, pulse and patterns. No doubt, there will a fair few music composers and producers to come out of this year group!
By the end of the term, we will have a piece that we can showcase to the rest of our class. So exciting!
Year 4 & 5 Trip to St Stephen's Church
This week, Year 4 and 5 enjoyed special visits to St Stephen’s Church, as part of the celebrations for its 150th year. Children’s Pastor, Lauren, welcomed us and guided the children through a variety of engaging activities that brought the church’s rich history to life.
We took part in a scavenger hunt, carefully exploring the church to find answers hidden in its architecture and displays. They learned about the stained glass windows and expressed their creativity by retelling part of the stories through their own drawings and writing. Inspired by artefacts from across the church’s history, they also created clay models, and worked collaboratively to produce a striking collage of the church building.
The children also explored photographs and stories of St Stephen’s, comparing the past with the present. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to connect with our local heritage and celebrate this important milestone in the church’s life.
What a memorable way to mark 150 years of St Stephen’s!
