Our week of sporting achievement kicked off in spectacular fashion on Monday with our KS2 Sports Day!
Our KS2 pupils had the inspiring privilege of competing at St Mary’s University, Twickenham - a world-class training environment. Stepping onto an official, professional running track gave the children a real taste of what it feels like to be an elite athlete, and the atmosphere was electric from the very first whistle.
At St Stephen's, we pride ourselves on a Sports Day format that perfectly balances true inclusivity with healthy competition. Every child had the opportunity to participate, push their personal limits, and contribute to their team. The Sports Day afternoon is a massive collaborative effort, with children working together to win invaluable points for their Houses.
From the determination on the track to the rapturous cheering from the sidelines, our pupils perfectly demonstrated the values of teamwork and determination. Little did we know on Monday, this fantastic attitude was about to be recognised on a national scale later in the week with our Platinum School Games Mark!
A huge thank you to Mr Cain who organised the day, the staff who supported individual events, and all the parents and carers who came along to cheer our pupils on.
The points are being carefully counted and the winning House will be revealed next week!
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that our school has, once again, been awarded the prestigious School Games Mark Platinum Award for this academic year!
The School Games Mark is a national, government-led accreditation scheme facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust. Rather than just tracking how many trophies a school wins, it rigorously evaluates a school’s entire commitment to sports. It looks closely at how many children are kept active every day, the variety of after-school clubs we provide, how we develop young sports leaders, and how inclusive our competitions are.
While schools can achieve Bronze, Silver, or Gold, the Platinum Award is an elite tier that cannot simply be applied for out of nowhere.
It is reserved exclusively for schools that have successfully maintained the Gold standard for several consecutive years. By demonstrating this long-term, sustainable excellence, we were invited to submit a detailed case study proving our continued impact on our pupils' physical health, wellbeing, and community involvement. Following a strict external audit, we were officially upgraded to Platinum!
This national recognition is a testament to the incredible hard work of our staff, the enthusiasm of our pupils, and the fantastic support from our school community.
Whether competing in tournaments like the recent Beehive Cup, giving 100% at our KS2 Sports Day, or joining our active after-school clubs, our children have shown immense dedication to staying healthy and collaborative. We are incredibly proud to have this officially recognised at the highest national level!
Year 3 have been busy working as chefs this week as part of their Design and Technology project all about bread.
The children started by exploring the science behind bread-making, learning exactly how ingredients like yeast react to make dough rise. They also looked at different types of bread from cultures right across the world and discussed how bread fits into a healthy, balanced diet.
The project ended with a fantastic practical cooking session where the pupils used everything they had learned to design and make their very own pizzas. To bring their creations to life, the children had to practise a variety of important real-life skills. They did a brilliant job measuring and weighing out ingredients accurately, chopping and slicing fresh toppings safely, and grating cheese carefully. Throughout the entire process, they took food hygiene and safety incredibly seriously, ensuring their hands, tools, and surfaces were clean.
The final verdict from Year 3 was unanimous - they were absolutely delicious! Well done to all our young chefs for showing such great focus and creativity in the kitchen.
