The sun was shining, (indeed it may just have got in their eyes), but we are thrilled to bring you the first image of our marvellous Reception cohort, complete with their wonderful staff team. The word on the corridor is that these young scholars are settling in beautifully. Starting school is such a momentous milestone, so we ensure we take lots of time to settle our children in before they start their learning journey. Home visits, short classroom stays and staggered entry are designed to ensure the smoothest of transitions to becoming a full time learner. They are all settled into their carpet spaces, lining up beautifully and building on many more school routines. As well as that, their academic journey has begun. Turn to page two for the first of this year's Reception Round Ups...
We have missed Year Six in school this week but know the children have been having a ball (literally, by the looks of these lovely photos) on their final school journey to Hooke Court. Back in the classroom, they are learning about the First World War. So a stay at the Hooke Court Residential Study Centre, where they can take part in a programme, geared to their current learning, is perfect. The centre has purpose built, mock trenches, which gave the children a feel of life during the First World War, although their experience was so much safer. They completed some firing practice, marching and a good old fashioned knees up and sing song in the Officers' Mess. Check out those sparkling chandeiers. More pictures on page four and we will bring you further photographic evidence of this spectacular school journey in next week's issue ...

We are delighted to announce that we will be holding another Scholastic Book Fair. This not only gives our children and parents a chance to buy some wonderful reading matter, but it is also a great way to support reading in school. Every time you buy a book you notch up reading credits for school, as Scholastic give us free books for our classrooms and library. This is the perfect way to help promote our bid to get each and every one of our children reading good quality books in and out of school. There is also a three for two book promotion on all books.
You may pay by card at the fair, via a card reader machine, or by using the online payment link at https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/pay/1329995 and simply selecting your school from the drop down menu. If you are in receipt of additional pupil funding and would like your child to choose a free book, please contact your child’s class teacher.
The event will be held in our school playground (see above for timings). However, if it is raining on the day, we will move the book sale into one of the downstairs classrooms.
Thank you so much for your continued support of reading in school. We hope you get some fabulous books for your home libraries.
Please could we remind all parents to be considerate about where they are parking in the mornings and after school. If cars are parked outside of the marked bays (eg at the end of roads or on corners), this poses a serious safety risk to our families walking to school, as their visibility is severely affected when trying to cross the road. It also poses difficulties for larger vans and lorries, causing them to mount the pavement, leading to increased traffic in the surrounding roads. Thank you for your support with this matter.
If you need to drop off items to school for your child during the school day that have been forgotten to be packed in the morning - packed lunches, trainers, recorder, reading books etc, please ring the buzzer at the Chertsey Road gate, the office will open the gate and you can place the items into the labelled 'drop box' by the office entrance. The items will be collected regularly throughout the day and brought to classes.
Thank you
