Year Five to Six Transition Meeting
Is your child starting Year Six in September? If so, we would like to invite you to a transition meeting on Wednesday 10th July at 5pm. The session will be held in school to give you an opportunity to meet your child’s new teacher and for us to come together as a group to discuss the year ahead. We ask for all parents of children in Year Five to fill in this form if they haven't already to let us know whether you can attend.
SAFEGUARDING
When you arrive to our Chertsey Road gate. Please always press the buzzer to speak to the receptionist to let us know who you are and why you are visiting.
Please do not let yourself in if school staff have opened the gate ahead of you with their pass, or if the gate is already open as you approach because someone has just left.
Press the buzzer, stand back slightly, so that you are visible on the camera, and then await a response from the receptionist.
Additionally, as you enter others may tailgate your entry, it is always advisable to tell the person to press the buzzer, even if you recognise them as a fellow school parent.

One of the highlights in our St Stephen's calendar is Diversity Week, our annual celebration of LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans) equality in education. We join thousands of primary and secondary schools and colleges across the UK to mark this important week. Our Rainbow Dress Up Day saw us dress up in the colours of the rainbow or sport something that celebrates each and every one of us as an individual. The Reception children and staff did their annual Pride march around our playground, cheered on by other classes. It was such a fun and joyous day and the message that we should all be accepted and our differences celebrated was one our children love hearing. We firmly believe that if we promote a culture of kindness and acceptance our world will be a better place and everyone in it will feel valued and loved. Here we give you just a small selection of the smiles and 'thumbs up' support we give as a community to diversity week. Next week we will bring you more reports on this very special week.
Well done to our fabulous Year Four Battle of the Books crew. Mrs Harrison and Miss Rainey were so proud of this committed group of children who have been attending weekly sessions and read the books in their own time. They completed a quiz, drama task and an art piece, based on the six set texts. Our children came a fabulous third in the drama task, based on the book Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce. The judges said they showed an excellent grasp of the the text, worked well together as a team and had a great use of humour. (The young actors are pictured above on stage) Well done!
This Year our Year Four historians have studied both the Romans and Anglo Saxons. So, the time felt right to build on this classroom-based learning with a trip to the British Museum, where artefacts aplenty are on display for both periods. Roman statues, jewellery and cooking paraphenalia were viewed by the young historians, giving them a chance to see physical examples of the archaelogical evidence they have learned about in class. Then it was onto all things Anglo Saxon. The archaelogical dig at Sutton Hoo is legendary and instrumental in transforming the way historians would view this period in history going forward. The iconic helmet and other artefacts were perfectly intact and seeing thisdisplay was definitely an 'awe and wonder' moment for our Year Four children (as evidenced in the shot right). It was been such a pleasure for our staff team to see how engaged our children have been in this topic. If you too are interested in finding out about all things Anglo Saxon at Sutton Hoo, ask one of our Year Four archaeologists - they are experts.
