Going up to the whiteboard in Year Five

We love it when our children go up to use the whiteboard to demonstrate to their peers. This week Year Five enjoyed showing their approximating skills in Maths.

Our Year Six children have been out and about on their bikes with the Richmond Bikeability team. Getting experience of road riding and correct signalling is perfect  preparation for when they move up to secondary school next year and are travelling about more independently.

Taking the Eightfold Path in Year Six

Studying Buddhism in Year Six gave our children the chance to come up with their own eighfold path for life. These, together with the Four Noble truths, are the blueprints for a Buddhist life. Our children saw these as a basis when drawing up their own life guidelines. They included kindness, freedom of speech and liberty among their life rules and included many of our own St Stephen's School values.

SPORTS REPORTS FROM MR CAIN AND MR MUNN

Last Thursday Hazel, Molly G, Polly, Mollie W, Izzy, Albert and Zander took part in a friendly, impromptu fixture versus Deer Park school. It was a great opportunity to see some of our squad compete, as well as pinpoint areas to work on. We are so proud of all those who contributed. Look out for more netball in our next issue, when we will have a match report on our first league fixture.

GIRLS FOOTBALL

The girls football team travelled to Sheen Recreation Ground to face off against their counterparts from St Mary's. Our girls started the match well and it was soon clear that it was a dead heat in terms of ability. Thanks to the defensive efforts of Mila and Mollie, the St Mary's forwards found it difficult to make any progress up the pitch. With Persey, Emi, Florence, Hettie and Madi up front, there was some great teamwork and passes of play that led to a few opportunities in the first half.

Unfortunately, late in the frame on a long throw, the ball bounced awkwardly right on to the foot of a St Mary's player to make it 1-0. In the second half, Annie stood Tall (yes with a capital T) and kept us in the game. With all the girls on both sides putting in such an evenly strong effort, the clock wound down and the score remained, 1-0 to St Mary's. It was a valiant effort and we can't wait to see how the girls perform next time they grace the pitch!

BOYS FOOTBALL - LEAGUE WINNERS

The boys headed to their final league fixture knowing only a victory would do against local rivals St Mary's, due to their significant goal difference. We headed to North Sheen Recreation ground feeling confident, as the boys continue to develop as a team, remaining unbeaten to date. St Stephen's soon took hold of the game and were on top throughout. Midway through the first half Oli broke through and finished superbly to score, following some great teamwork. However, this is where the goals ended, despite Seb crashing the ball against our opponents bar, the game ended 1-0 to St Stephen's. We secured the league title, as well as qualification to the cup, as one of the top two sides. Huge congratulations to everyone there for their dominance throughout and a special mention to Alistair for his 'man of the match' performance. He defended like a warrior! Well done Aydin, Ali, Peyton, Freddie, Seb, Albert and Oli. What a performance!
