We are thrilled to announce that Doctor Stuart Lawrence will be visiting our school next week, holding workshops for parents, children and staff. Over the past few years, we have developed a partnership with Stuart in supporting us in our journey as an anti-racist school. Our ultimate goal is to have a judgement-free environment in which all feel safe to discuss sensitive topics by listening to each other with care. Open dialogue can develop real community understanding and unity. It is vital that as many members of our parent and carer community attend as possible. The theme of Stuart's talk will be 'Developing confidence in talking about race and difference.'
Please join us on Wednesday 27th November at 9am
We are delighted to announce that Rachel Cormack will be the new teacher in Year Six's Kamkwamba class. Rachel has been teaching for seven years and recently came to London from her native New Zealand. A fresh air enthusiast, she loves walking and reading and is enjoying exploring London. Welcome to St Stephen's Rachel.
Lest we Forget. Last week Miss Mowbray led a very moving Remembrance Assembly, reminding us of why it is so important for us to spare two minutes every year to remember the fallen. Miss Cooper, who is a flag bearer for the Isleworth British Legion, joined us in her uniform.
Congratulations to our new Year Five and Six Reading Leaders who are keen to promote a love of books and reading. Regular reading sessions with our newest readers in Reception kicked off this week.
It is only up the for road for us, so a perfect destination for our Year Five children, as they start their new cross curricuar topic on all things Tudor. A tour of Henry VIII's palace (originally built for Cardinal Wolsey, but later purloined by Henry when he became aware of the palace's splendour), gave the young historians a feel for the majesty of the Tudor court. Next up was a workshop on Tudor trading. Wool and salt were major British exports and Henry expanded trade by establishing trading treaties with France and Spain. There was also time for a spot of lunch - it is not often we get to lunch on royal premises. We were so lucky to have some amazing parents who volunteered their time to ensure we could go on this fantastic trip. Thank you so much to them. For more pictures, turn to page two ...
We love our class assemblies. Here we give you Lau class sharing their knowledge of recent topics on the Benin kingdom and properties and materials in science. There were jokes aplenty and even a live science experiment. A talented bunch of performers. Miss Downes thinks some of them may be movie stars of the future.
