The time has come! I am hanging up my whiteboard pen and signing off the school newsletter. I have felt so fabulously welcome in the St Stephen's School community for twenty three years. I first came here as a parent when my oldest son, Louis (who turned thirty last week!), came to our lovely school. He was followed two years later by his brother Milo and, as well as being a parent, I have been a class rep and chair of the PTA. I have loved all my roles here and being on staff for twenty years has been the icing on the cake. When my boys started work I told them if you can find a job you love that brings you joy and work with nice people, you have cracked it. I have followed that excellent advice and been in a job I have adored for two decades, working with the most incredible staff and children. St Stephen's is a very special place. My job means I get to teach all our children at some point (usually repeatedly over the years) so I get to see them grow and develop which is a real privilege. As a former journalist, putting together the newsletter each week is an added bonus.
There have been too many wonderful colleagues and friends to mention over the years but I would like to thank my beloved boss, Mrs Bachour, for her unstinting support. She has given me so many opportunities professionally for which I cannot thank her enough. It has been twenty joyful years and I just want to thank the staff, governors, parents and, most of all, our wonderful children, past and present, for being such a huge part of my life.
So, to quote a lyric from my favourite musical, 'The Sound of Music,' ..' So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye.' Miss Rainey xxx
Huge congratulations to our boys' football team who have been selected to represent Brentford Football Club in a national tournament at Wolverhampton Wanderers FC's iconic Molineux Stadium. We are so, so proud of this extraordinary bunch of lads who have beaten all comers and won the borough tournament in style. Brentford is allowed to choose a local boys team to compete on its behalf at this prestigious national tournament, held at a premier club. This year Wolverhampton Wanderers plays host. Out of dozens of football teams the Brentford scouts have selected our boys.
Our head coach, Danny Cain, is beyound delighted: "These boys have represented St Stephen's with such great sportsmanship, beating everyone fair and square with their exceptional football skills. We got representatives from Brentford to announce this to the boys in a whole school assembly, giving everyone a chance to celebrate them. They have made me so proud. Well done boys."
Mrs Bachour was also on hand to honour the boys: "Each and every time the boys play Mr Cain tells us not only about their match winning skills but how they have played with such sportsmanship and represented our school so well. Huge congratulations to them and their amazing coach, Mr Cain. This news has really made my day."
Note: We were missing Raffy at the celebratory assembly, but have his shirt ready for him. You can view him and the rest of the team in the shots below.
We are looking forward to welcoming our children to our Easter Camp where they will stay active, learn new skills, play games and have lots of fun with their friends.
Please ensure your children have a good breakfast each day and bring along a packed lunch, snacks and a water bottle, breakfast will be served 8:30-9am in the second week only.
Any food brought into school should be in line with our 'food in school' policy (click to read).
Please also ensure that children are dressed appropriately as there will be plenty of outdoor playing. Please pack a sunhat and apply sun cream in the morning if needed. It may be helpful to pack a change of clothes for younger children.

On 2nd April, the KS2 choir sang beautifully at the Richmond Music Trust’s annual Singing Festival. The theme this year was ‘Wonderful World’ and the children sang with other Richmond primary schools in this exciting gala concert. Thank you to Jane Lindenberg who prepared the children so well for their performance and to Mrs Harrison who accompanied them, as well as all the parents who came to watch in support. Congratulations to the children of the KS2 choir – you have the voices of angels. My personal highlight was the children’s rendition of ‘Top of the World’ originally written and composed by Richard Carpenter and John Bettis and first recorded by the Carpenters. The St Stephen’s singers brought a tear to my eye with their gorgeous version. Our choirs meet on Mondays and Thursdays – have a look at the club listings to sign up, ready for the next performance opportunity.
