Books Too Good To Miss

These are books in our library that I really like.

I decided to list them by Accelerated Reader level because, after students are tested to find their reading level/range, they may be asked to choose books to match. You can go to the AR Bookfinder site to get a lot of information and suggestions for more books that your children may enjoy.

My take on this AR system is that it seems to be based more on vocabulary than on content. For example, many books for teenagers have 4th or 5th grade AR reading level and may not be appropriate for some children actually in those grades. By the same token, you may want to take a look at books on lists above or below your children's ages based on their interests rather than the need for grades. There are some wonderful picture books, both fiction and non-fiction, with hardly any words but with thought-provoking ideas. In addition, I highly recommend reading more challenging books together as a family.

The main thing is to read all sorts of stuff and find out how enjoyable it can be! I'll be happy to help.

(Over time, I will be adding more lists.)
