Curriculum Intent:
The science curriculum provides the foundations for children to explore and understand the world around them through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. The curriculum has been structured to challenge pupils both inside and outside of the classroom to build their substantive and disciplinary knowledge. Pupils participate in practical lessons through investigations as well as workshops and educational visits enable children to access and learn at a deeper level about the physical world.
Pupils feel motivated to actively use their knowledge to explain and analyse scientific phenomena occurring in their daily life.
St Helen’s allows pupils to explore their faith and scientific understanding through aspects of stewardship in order to care for the world both through a scientific and spiritual lens; encompassing Catholic social teaching.
With these underlying principles, children are encouraged to embark upon a journey which leads to them understanding the relationship between scientific understanding and faith.
