Newsletter 14th March 2022

Dear Parents & Carers,

We are delighted to share with you once again the highlights from the last few weeks. As always, I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that we are here to help and support families in many ways. Even if you just want to pop in for a chat, you are always welcome. As we move forward through this year, we are looking forward to getting back into our routine of Educational Visits and events and are excitingly planning for the Summer Term Events. We will keep you informed of all of the dates. We are always very grateful for volunteers on visits, if you are able to help out you will be most welcome!

As we continue on our journey through Lent, we remember to try to prepare ourselves for Easter. During our weekly Assemblies, the pupils are going on a virtual Pilgrimage and looking at how we can follow in Jesus' footsteps in order to be the best we can. The children are thinking of ways in which they can become closer to God in their daily lives, by looking to themselves and others.

This week we celebrate St Patrick's Day, as we celebrate this saint's day, we remember to call upon our patron saints to support us, protect and guide us.

Check out our highlight from the last few weeks below. You can also keep up to date with all the events and visits by checking the website regularly.

Thank you for your continued support.

Best wishes

Miss Doherty x

Rainbow & Brownies - A message from our local Brownie Leader

Does your daughter like having fun, learning new things and making new friends?

Girl guiding has been giving girls and young women a space where they can be themselves, have fun, build brilliant friendships and gain valuable life skills for over 100 years.

I myself have been a part of Girl Guiding for 25years, starting Brownies at the age of 7, moving on to guides, becoming a young leader and then a qualified leader. Being a part of Guiding; has not only taught me to be confident, strong and independent, it has also introduced me to opportunities I may have never experienced otherwise. Being part of Girl Guiding is like belonging to a family that consists of over 320,000 members around the UK. And many thousands more around the world.

I’m one of the leaders of the local Brownie unit which is nearly 100 years old. I’m also a leader at a Rainbow unit , which opened in September 2021.

You can find out more about what we do at www.girlguiding.org.uk

Rainbows is for girls aged 5-7year olds and Brownies for 7-10 year olds.

If you daughter would like to join us, or if you have any questions about Rainbows or Brownies please contact us on our emails below.

Nursery & Reception

Nursery - As part of the fun learning about Traditional Tales, the children in nursery have been baking Jack and the Beanstalk muffins. We have followed the recipe and even got to crack the eggs! We thought the eggs were from the golden hen. We have also been celebrating new life through planting seeds that we will observe each week at Forest School. The Woodpecker ate the last seeds we planted.

Reception have been challenging themselves to climb even when they might feel fear. This has resulted in them encouraging and helping each other as well as taking turns.

Year 1 & 2

Year 1 were acting out the play 'A Midsummer Nights Dream' at this weeks Shakespeare workshop. They were fantastic actors!

In Year 2 we have been reading Shakespeare's The Tempest. We have enjoyed finding out about the characters and understanding the plot of the story.

Years 3 & 4

Year 3 took park in a Shakespeare workshop. The role play helped children to remember and recall the story of Twelfth Night. Using the props and dressing up helped the children remember the characters and their relationship to one another. Children enjoyed the humour from the play and how the characters play tricks on each other.

In DT, year 4 have enjoyed creating strong shell structures using laminating, corrugating and ribbing. We were able to create a structure that was able to hold 12 dictionaries and 4 pencil cases! The children have also been playing lots of Times Tables Games!

Years 5 & 6

Year 5 have been learning about the geographical features of Italy, comparing them to the ones in U.K. using the atlas.

The children in Year 5 were joined by our friends from St Joachim's and Britannia Village as they rehearsed 'Friend Like Me' for their Festival of Voices show in July! We were lucky enough to have the live band and guest star Joanne Clifton who is a dancer and singer and recently has been on Strictly Come Dancing!

Year 6 participated in a workshop about the Houses of Parliament. They learned about democracy and our government. During the workshop, they enjoyed participating in a class debate.

Year 6 participated in a workshop with the happiness coach - Action Jackson. They learned about developing their confidence and self-worth. They also learned about how they can be kind to one another. They participated in various exercises which helped them to think about how they can be kind to one another.
