Social Studies/Religion Syllabus
Welcome!
My name is Scott Wiemers and I am the seventh grade history/religion teacher. I come from a "long line" of teachers and have wanted to teach since I was six, so I truly have a passion for the profession. I attended Iowa Central in Fort Dodge for my A.A. in Secondary Education and finished my B.A. in Social Science from Loras College in Dubuque. Feel free to stop by and introduce yourself. If you have traveled abroad please let me know if you would be interested in being a guest speaker. I always welcome your comments, questions, or concerns. Please do not hesitate to contact me at anytime! I may be reached through my email at: wiemerss@st-edmond.pvt.k12.ia.us or by calling the school.

Altering grades
CHEATING/PLAGIARISM:
Students at St. Edmond Catholic School are expected to produce work to the best of their ability. Work submitted for credit or recognition is to be done by each individual student and must be his/her own work. Cheating, plagiarism, etc., will result in loss of credit for the assignment which could result in the loss of credit for the course. Teachers may use appropriate resources such as www.turnitin.com to verify the authenticity of student work. Refusal to submit work for analysis will be considered plagiarism.
Cheating on schoolwork from an outside accredited school entity or other source may be judged according to the policies on cheating. Cheating on schoolwork may result in no credit (zero grade) for that assignment. Parents should be notified if a student is caught cheating by the teacher.
CELL PHONES:
Cell phones are not be visible or heard during instructional times/classroom/study hall and hallway; unless authorized by the instructor of that classroom. The consequences are as follows:
1st offense – phone is taken from the student by a faculty or staff member then brought to the administrative office. The student may get the phone returned that day, pending evaluation of the situation. All necessary information if recorded.
2nd offense – phone is taken from the student by a faculty or staff member and brought to the administrative office. Parents shall be notified to come get the phone during regular administrative office hours. Two hours of Wednesday School will be given. All necessary information is recorded. Note: if the parent is unable to come to school that day or the student chooses for the school not to notify the parent, the student’s phone will be returned and an extra hour of Wednesday School will be given.
3rd offense – the same procedure for 2nd offense will be utilized, but 4 hours of Wednesday School will be given.
4th or more offense – principal’s discretion.
The number of offenses is cumulative over the entire school year. Parents should NOT be texting their children during school time.
For any further guidelines/policies not mentioned on this syllabus, I will follow those that are stated in the Parent/Student Handbook
