Secondary

Fifteen Weeks Later...and Happy Holidays

It is said that the world’s future is in the hands of our children and an education that aims to give our youth the tools to naturally act in a positive way towards themselves and

others is the best education.

It has been fifteen weeks since the start of the school year and in my estimation, each of us in St Andrew’s Secondary School has in some small way positively changed themselves and the community for the better.

Students, faculty and parents helping to improve the playground and the community

Students, faculty, parents and the wider St Andrew’s community have found ways to up our generosity and concern for others by giving needed food items during the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, recognizing the sacrifices of war veterans at the student led Remembrance Day assembly, contributing to the school Scholarship fund through various out of uniform and casual Fridays, raised awareness for cancer and aids, participating in Taino House Day in support of the Humane Society, donating gently used clothing being collected by the Early Act Club, giving of time during the recent CAS Saturday, faculty leading extracurricular clubs including Plarn, Choirs, Freedom Writers Speech and Debate, Dominoes, study buddies and extra lunchtime support and much more.

Together we have grown in our capacity to give back to the community and this is one of the

things that makes St Andrew’s a great place to learn.

TEAM - Together We Achieve More

The new year from January to June 2018 will be just as busy and students will need to return from the holiday rested, focused and ready to challenge themselves inside and outside the classroom.

A celebration of academic excellence at the Ministry of Education Awards Ceremony will take place on Monday January 15th and five Hurricanes will be recognized for their outstanding academic achievements Raphael Brennan, Luke Carey, Geonelle Ifill, Giane Ifill and Samantha Mikhael. Congratulations to these students, their teachers and parents!

Hurricanes Sports Day is on Friday January 12th, mock examinations for grade 10 and 12 after the February mid term break and ongoing final preparations for the external IB, IGCSE and BGCSE examinations in May and June.

All the best to the entire St Andrew’s community for a peaceful and safe holiday and

during the holiday if we can all “act now” in whatever way we are called to “focus on the good we can each do”, the result will help our students and the community to continue to move in a better direction.
