ACT Accommodations Process

Please follow the instructions below in order to request ACT special accommodations in 2017-2018. Hyperlinks are embedded throughout the instructions to help answer questions and provide clarification.

1. Please complete and return the ACT consent to release information form. This needs to be updated for all students.

2. Follow the instructions at ACT.org about how to start the request process for special accommodations. You need to:

a.) access an electronic student ACT account (Set one up if needed.)

b.) register electronically for an ACT testing date (If you are asking to test at St. Stephen's, PLEASE CHECK WITH EILEEN WILSON BEFORE YOU PICK A DATE IN ORDER TO MAKE SURE A SUPERVISOR IS AVAILABLE )

c.) decide on the special accommodations you want to request, and before completing the registration, see and use the link(s) for requesting special-accommodations testing. After you include the request with your registration, ACT will then tell you by email to contact Eileen Wilson.

3. There are two arrangements for special accommodations. You need to decide which arrangement you want: national testing with extended time or special testing. Please let Eileen know if you need assistance in making this decision.

4. Once you decide what accommodations you are requesting, please complete the student registration for a specific test on ACT.org.

5. Your most recent evaluation and IAP will be electronically submitted to ACT. Please email them to Eileen Wilson if they are not already on file at St. Stephen's. Be ready to provide the latest testing and report which you have from an acceptable diagnostician, in case it is requested by ACT.

6. Once you complete the online registration, ACT will contact Eileen Wilson to verify your account. Eileen will send you a confirmation of verification. **If you do not get a verification email from Eileen Wilson within 2 weeks of you registering, please contact her.**

The wait is about 7-10 days to hear back from ACT.

7. If you have already been approved for accommodations through ACT, those accommodations stand. BUT - you must alert Eileen Wilson of any tests you plan on taking, so they can be entered into the ACT accommodations portal. If this step is not done, the student may not be eligible for accommodations.

PSAT/SAT Accommodations Process

Once a student’s accommodations are approved by the College Board, they remain in effect until one year after high school graduation (with some limited exceptions) and can be used on the SAT, SAT Subject Tests, PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, and AP Exams. Students do not need to request accommodations from SSD before each test. Students who have previously been approved for accommodations through a different school should alert St. Stephen's of this approval.

**The SAT approval process can take up to 7 weeks. PLAN EARLY!**

  1. A parent or guardian signs the Parent Consent Form and gives it to the school’s SSD Coordinator - Eileen Wilson. The form can be scanned/emailed or sent via hard copy. If the student is age 18 or older, the student signs the form. The school keeps the form for its records.
  2. Once you have decided what accommodations you are requesting, please email Eileen Wilson with the following information:
    • Student's name
    • Accommodations Requested (SAT Accommodations). Please specify the amount of extended time you are requesting. This time must be consistent with what is documented in the educational evaluation and student IAP
  3. The SSD Coordinator opens a request for accommodations using SSD Online and enters contact information for the student as well as information regarding the student’s disability, requested accommodations, and formal plan. In some cases, questions will also be asked about the documentation that the school has on file for the student.
  4. After the request is submitted, SSD Online displays a message stating whether documentation must also be submitted. If so, the SSD Coordinator assembles documentation and checks it against the criteria for the particular disability and for the requested accommodations. Learn more about Providing Documentation.
  5. The student and SSD Coordinator are notified when a decision is made. In most cases, the student is sent the decision by postal mail. Students with a College Board My Organizer account who are registered for the SAT can view their decision letter by signing into My Organizer. If the parent’s email is also associated with the student’s My Organizer account, the student and parent receive an email when the decision letter is available, not a letter. If accommodations are approved, the decision letter includes an eligibility letter, containing test-by-test details. The decision and eligibility letters also include the student's eligibility code, which is needed for SAT registration.
