The School of Science and Technology (SST), is a school of innovation by design that focuses on fostering an innovative mindset in its students. With a mission to nurture passionate innovators who apply knowledge of science and technology, guided by the spirit of the humanities for a better world, SST emphasises the importance of drawing meaningful connections across different disciplines to solve real-world problems. The school has adopted an applied learning approach in its curriculum design, which encompasses the SST's unique Six Facets of Applied Learning. Through this approach, students develop a deep conceptual understanding of the different disciplines that prepares them for the challenges of the future.
The SST-NP Integrated Diploma Programme (IDP) is the first STEM-related through-train programme in Singapore offering a direct polytechnic pathway. This programme provides an unique opportunity for Secondary Three students to pursue one of twenty-one diploma courses from the Five Academic Schools in Ngee Ann Polytechnics without taking the ‘O’ Level Examination (with the exception of their mother tongue language subject) at the end of Secondary Four.
The first cohort of IDP students began its journey in 2023, marking a significant milestone in the history of SST.
By freeing up time and space for deeper applied learning across a wider range of STEM fields, the IDP enables students to engage in more integrated learning experiences. Through partnerships with higher institutes of learning, industries, and the community, students will also have the chance to extend their learning beyond the classroom, culminating in a Capstone project that will serve as the highlight of their IDP experience.
SST provides its students with a wide range of applied subjects, such as Biotechnology, Computing+, Design Studies, and Electronics. This allows students to explore and specialise in areas that align with their interests and passions. These applied subjects are recognised for admission to Junior Colleges or Polytechnics, offering students diverse pathways for further education.
SST is unique in offering both Biotechnology and Design Studies as applied subjects, which distinguishes it from other secondary schools in Singapore. Furthermore, students who wish to pursue two applied subjects simultaneously can opt for Engineering+, which includes Computing+ and Electronics.
The Computing+ course empowers students with computational thinking skills and nurtures their creativity, enabling them to analyse and solve complex problems.
The Biotechnology course is a multi-disciplinary scientific field that utilises knowledge from biology and technology to enhance human well-being and environmental conditions.
The Design Studies course delves deeper into the design process, encompassing design thinking and the three design disciplines of visual communication design, interior and exhibition space design, and architectural design.
The Electronics course introduces students to the study of electronics engineering through the application of scientific knowledge of electricity and electronics and to solve authentic engineering problems using the engineering design process.
