Canyon Springs, originally Honby Elementary School and part of the Saugus Union School District, opened in 1963. In 1991, the school was transferred to the Sulphur Springs Union School District and renamed.

On Thursday, Aug. 1, 1963, groundbreaking ceremonies were held on a hillside site in Canyon Country to commemorate the building of a new school. This school, to be added to the Sulphur Springs Union District, was to be named in honor of 77-year-old Mrs. Leona H. Cox.

Mint Canyon School opened on September 10, 1963. The previous Mint Canyon school burned down and the children attended Sulphur Springs School until the new Mint Canyon School was built.

The first phase of the Mitchell Community School, 14 classrooms, was completed in 1969 and the second phase of six classrooms was completed in 1971.

Pinetree Community School opened in the fall of 1988 with eighteen classrooms and 22 teachers.

Sulphur Springs school was founded in 1872 by the Mitchell Family. Martha Mitchell taught the first classes inside the kitchen of her adobe home.

Valley View School was acquired from the Saugus District in 1982 through the territorial transfer process. Valley View added the Tommye D. Warner Annex building in 2016.
