Chapter 16 - Faith Words
hallowed: Hallowed is another word for holy.

trespasses: Trespasses are sins or wrongs.

temptation: A temptation is wanting to do something that is wrong.

Chapter 15 - Faith Words
New Commandment: In the New Commandment Jesus tells us to love one another as he loves us.

Chapter 14 - Faith Words
Sacrament of the Eucharist: In the Sacrament of the Eucharist we receive the Body and Blood of Christ. The Eucharist is a sacrifice and a sacred meal of Christ's Body and Blood.

Chapter 13 - Faith Words
sacrifice: A sacrifice is a special gift that is given out of love.

savior: A savior is someone who rescues others.

Resurrections The Resurrection is Jesus' being raised from the dead to new life.

Chapter 12  - Faith Words
Last Supper: The Last Supper is the special meal Jesus ate with his friends on the night before he died.

Prayer of the Faithful: During the Prayer of the Faithful we pray for the needs of the Church and of all people. This prayer is the last part of the Liturgy of the Word.

Chapter 11  - Faith Words
Works of Mercy: The Works of Mercy tell us how to take care of the needs of others.

Chapter 10  - Faith Words

The Liturgy of the Word: This is the part of the Mass when we listen to God's Word from the Bible.

homily: The homily helps us understand the Bible readings we just heard.

Nicene Creed: The Nicene Creed tells the important beliefs of the Catholic faith.

Chapter 9  - Faith Words
Bible: The Bible is called the Word of God. Its words tell what God wants us to know about himself. We also call Jesus the Word of God. He shows most fully who God is.

creation: God made all creation good.

Word of God: The Word of God is God speaking to us in the Bible.

Chapter 8 - Faith Words
contrition: sorrow for doing wrong and wanting to stay away from sin.

Chapter 7 - Faith Words
mortal sin: the most serious kind of sin. It separates us completely from God's grace.

venial sin: a less serious sin, it weakens our love for God and others.

Chapter 6 - Faith Words
Penance and Reconciliation: a Sacrament of Healing that celebrates God's love and forgiveness.

absolution: God's forgiveness given through the priest in the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation.

Chapter 5 - Faith Words
free will: the freedom God gives us to choose between right and wrong.

conscience: our ability to know right from wrong.

sin: to choose to do hurtful things on purpose. Sin is disobeying God.

Chapter 4 - Faith Words
praise: a joyful type of prayer. It celebrates God's goodness.

psalms: prayers from the Bible that are often sung.

prayer: talking to and listening to God.

Chapter 3 - Faith Words
Saints: People who showed great love for God and others and died filled with God's grace. They live with him now in Heaven.

Holy: To be holy means to be like God.

Chapter 2 - Faith Words

Sacraments: Special signs of God's love and presence that bring us his grace.

Grace: The gift of God's life within us that fills us with his love.

Baptism: Washes away sin and welcomes new members to the Church.

Original Sin:

Chapter 1 -Faith Words 

Parish: A community that worships, works, and prays together.

People of God: The followers of Jesus Christ

Mass: A holy meal that makes present again Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross.

Our Father

Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our tresspasses. As we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Act of Contrition

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy.

Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen
