A little, red boat is launched. We don't know who by or where but it sets off on a journey.
In this animation the boat is the main character. The children can write the narrative for this story from the point of view of the boat.
Choose from one of these of writing opportunities:
Write the narrative for the animation
Write the dialogue between the 2 monkeys on the boat or between the soldiers.
Create a post card album, use stills from the animations as postcards, write home imagining they are the boat, describing what has happened, what they saw and how they are feeling.
A young boy builds himself a rocket and sends himself off to Space. He lands on a far away planet. His spaceship breaks down, a friendly alien lands and he breaks down too. The little boy parachutes to earth to get some tools to fix the ship. He gets back by way of a huge ladder, fixes the machines and then they both fly off.
Respond to the clip by choosing from one or more of these ideas:
Write a diary/recount of the adventure.
Write a holiday brochure page for their destination.
Write a description of the alien or the strange place in which they land. Use as many interesting words as possible
NGV is committed to providing creative experiences for young people and their families. During this challenging time we hope to share new ways to be creative at home with our online resources. Research shows that drawing and making is a great way to help children relax and reduce feelings of anxiety.
Explore and choose from activity sheets and e-books for free things to do at home or school. Print or take inspiration with paper and pencils at hand. Transform the kitchen table into a table-top studio and turn potential boredom into productivity. Let’s get started!
She had been chasing it all day. Now, the crow had it.
Time was ticking. Time was running out. She tiptoed towards the creature, seeing the precious key it held precariously in its sharp, cruel beak. It let out an irritating, throaty cackle, its soot-black wings ruffling gently as it manoeuvred itself on top of the clock; it was ready to take flight.
Knowing she might only have a few seconds before her opportunity disappeared, she took another cautious step forward. Time seemed to slow, her body tingled in excitement and her heart thudded in her chest. It was now or never…
What do you think the key is for? Why do you think the girl is so desperate to have it?
Why do you think the crow has taken the key?
How did the clock get there? Is it significant in the story?
What do you think the crow is thinking?

Allow your partner one minute to look at all the objects.

Now quietly remove an object and hide it from your partner.
Ask your partner to turn back and remove the cover.
They have to guess which object is missing.
Variations:

- add more objects
-instead of objects use words written on a card
(This helps to build visual memory)

Watch this short clip. Come up with a narrative about a book that came to life.
Remember to use lots of interesting descriptions. You might want to start with describing the grey dull room before the book opens and then how the room is transformed by the butterflies.
Maybe consider if other animals might come out from the book...what would happen if dinosaurs came out of the book?
