Hello Future 7th graders!
Congratulations on a successful 6th grade year! I hope you have a summer of relaxation and fun! For this summer, you may pick any two books to read from the list below:
-In the Footsteps of Crazy Horse by Joseph Marshall.
-Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick
-Hope Was Here by Joan Bauer
-Point Blank by Anthony Horowitz
-Everything Sad Is Untrue: (A True Story) By Lucinda Dyer
-The Cay by Thedore Taylor
This Summer you will need to work on two projects:
Project 1: Journal/Diary Entries - Write 10 journal entries telling what has happened to the main character in the novel. Each entry should be 5-6 sentences at least. The journal entries should be in chronological order. The journals should be written in the character's perspective.
*You must do a journal for each novel
For example:
Monday, January 10th
Today the most exciting thing happened to my family and me.
Just as we sat down to eat dinner …
Saturday, January 15th
No one is going to believe that earlier this week, there was a
knock at the door and …
Project 2:
Only do this for one novel.
Pick a character from the novel.
For the character, add speech bubbles with direct quotes from the book that show their development and how they contribute to the theme.
Use at least four quotes per character.
Example:
You would draw the character and add the speech bubbles with direct quotes that represent the theme/character development. Please complete this on Poster paper.
Example:
Character : Scout Finch
Speech Bubbles:
"Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing."
Theme: Innocence and Growth
"I think there's just one kind of folks. Folks."
Theme: Equality and Human Nature
"Naw, Jem, I think there's just one kind of folks. Folks."
Character Development: Understanding of Human Nature
"Well, it'd be sort of like shootin' a mockingbird, wouldn't it?"
Theme: Innocence and Empathy
*Be prepared to explain your quotes when we start school.
-Please submit the Journals in my Google Classroom by Aug 20th.
Poster project due the first day of school.
I am looking forward to getting to know you all and having a wonderful year!
Sincerely,
