We always begin 5th grade math revisiting Place Value. Understanding the place value system is essential to having a deeper understanding of how numbers work together. When we are strong with our numbers, using those numbers to complete operations becomes much easier.
In fifth grade we spend a lot of time focused on the "decimal" side of our place value chart. We will begin by learning how to read, write and expand decimals. By the end of the school year, we will be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide with whole numbers and decimals. We will also understand the very important relationship and "equivalence" of decimals and fractions.
