If you fail any assignment, you can do it again! Retakes are available for every assignment, but they have to be done outside of class.
If you are absent the expectation is that you come in on your own time, and retake or redo what ever you missed. Also, you need to make up the absence by engaging in Spanish and documenting what you did. For example, if you missed class you could watch an episode of a show or a movie on YouTube or Netflix in Spanish with subtitles, and then tell me about it. I will explain this in class.
Listen with the intent to understand. Learning another language is similar to listening to a new song. The first few times you hear something you may not understand, but by listening again and again and slowing down the speed of the speaker, you begin to comprehend small pieces. By practicing every day you begin to hear the language and engage with it more. Eventually, like listening to a song over and over again, you know and understand the words you are hearing.
Do your 50%! I will be creating lessons that are interactive and engaging but, sometimes require you to get a little uncomfortable. If you try your best in every situation, you will be successful. However, if an activity or situation is causing you a lot of anxiety, let me know. Send me an email or speak to me privately. My goal is for everyone to have fun and learn some Spanish.
On your behalf we purchase readers that are appropriate for your level in Spanish. You can write in these readers. You can highlight words and translate them. You can save the readers, and reread them over the summer or before your college entrance exams. Reading will help kick start your knowledge about Spanish. Because the readers have a lot of cultural elements, you can use them to plan travel in the future or for ideas for other classes.
We are trying to offer you lots of options to learn Spanish your way. We want you to engage in Spanish every day, and the apps provide variety as well as convenience for learning Spanish.
