Ria Iyer

I'm Ria Iyer, currently in my last year at SSLA. One of my biggest motivations for joining the IBHA team, is my inclination towards anything that employs a wide, holistic perspective on the world, on life. It always helps me make sense of the world a little better, which is why IBHA is something I'm starting to feel extremely passionate about. I also enjoy reading, baking bread, origami, gazing at trees and birds, sudokus, tea, instant noodles and procrastinating basically everything (I lie- the last bit is more stressful than is enjoyable).

My name is Shweta Padhi and I am a third year (sigh). I think culture is something none of us can escape yet most of us have forgotten about. I appreciate the initiative of Big History and drive everyone involved in it has. This determination also encouraged me to join the team! My name is Rekha Shreshtha Tumane and I am in my third year at SSLA. I’ve always been fascinated by Big History. It’s such a vast project that intertwines and brings various disciplines together to answer questions about our origin. I believe human beings are curious by nature, and I think the story of our origin and the details involving the same is such an interesting and fun area to explore. I am Soujanya Bhattacharyya, a third liberal arts student at SSLA. I am a member of the communications and media team of the IBHA-SSLA Conference ‘21 and have been working as the social media head for “The Talk”, a non-profit organization working with adolescents and their problems. With a growing interest in photography, I have worked as the head photographer for “Cochere”, a fashion and lifestyle magazine promoting sustainability. I have been an active part of theatre in Kolkata, as both a cast member as well as a part of the production team.

I am Parvathi Vijay, second year student at SSLA. I also have an interest in psychology. Big History is of special interest to me as it is a study that cuts across disciplines and engages in fields of such a variety which is congruent to that of my interests. As a student whose interests and specialization don't lie in the conventional divisions of the sciences or the humanities, I feel Big History is able to draw on all of my interests in an organic manner and put them to use systematically. I take great interest in music and wish to pursue it in addition to an academic career.

Hello, there! I am Saanvi Singh in my 2nd year of college. When I see a piece of broken glass lying on the road, the first thing that I'm concerned with isn't someone getting hurt by it but what that piece originally belonged to or was a part of. I am someone who likes going on a quest and learning about the most random things on earth and beyond. So, when I got to know about the IBHA conference, I jumped at the chance. Apart from my “thirst for knowledge”, I love listening to music and dancing along to it. I also like playing badminton and talking to people and listening to their stories.

Hi! I am Yamini and a 2nd year in college. I love watching Crime thriller shows and movies, am an amateur artist and someone who loves taking pictures of the sky.
Big History looks at the past,
explains the present, and speculates on the future. It's a story about us and I would personally like to know more about this story, a story I am a part of. Working in this conference will not only give me an opportunity to learn and explore more about Big History, but it will also give me experience on working and interacting with people across the world. Vanshika Prasad

Hi, my name is Vanshika Prasad. Ecology Project has been a great service learning opportunity for me. It is an established programme to mitigate and offset the negative effects of greenhouse gas emissions and energy use. I have been the Student Intern for the Ecology Project since the beginning of 2020 and during my Internship with Prof. Barry Rodrigue, I have learnt a lot about permaculture and the management behind this brilliant project. I have designed and worked on the Ecology Booklet and apart from this I love cooking food, documenting everything through my camera, learn about new cultures around the world, travel, gardening and I am also an athlete.
