Honourable Chairs, distinguished delegates, and esteemed guests,
It is our utmost honor to welcome you to Saigon South International School for the SSIS Model United Nations Conference 2025.
Eighty years ago, the United Nations was founded from the rubble of the Second World War on the principles of peace, cooperation, and equality. On its 80th anniversary, these values are more important than ever, with a multitude of issues threatening international cooperation and global stability. In the Middle East and Ukraine, armed conflict continues to claim the lives of thousands, including innocent civilians and children. Inequality and poverty continue to plague the most vulnerable in our communities. Meanwhile, climate change remains an existential threat to the human race, changing the face of the Earth as we know it. Amid these crises, it may seem hopeless.
However, we remind you that hope continues to exist. It exists through discourse, argumentation, and diplomacy that strive to find common ground amid the polarity that threatens to divide. It is this sense of collaboration that is the foundation for the theme of SSISMUN 2025: “Chart New Frontiers.”
This year, we call upon delegates to embrace the spirit of innovation and courage. As you engage in thoughtful debate and work to craft creative resolutions, we encourage you to push boundaries, challenge established perspectives, and seek out new possibilities. The world demands for leaders who are not afraid to step into the unknown, leaders who understand that unity is forged through understanding, and leaders who are willing to compromise for the greater good our human existence.
We are confident that the passion, dedication, and intellect you bring to this conference will lead to discussions that inspire change and foster international cooperation. We hope SSISMUN 2025 will be a platform where your ideas transform into actionable change, where you listen as much as you speak, and where you learn the true power of diplomacy.
Once again, we welcome you to the home of the dragon.
