Technically, no. Georgia is a direct access state and you can receive physical therapy without a prescription.
No, I provide physical therapy in your home under Medicare B outpatient benefits. There is no additional cost associated with me coming to your home.
Really, there are positives and negatives to both types of care. As we age, people tend to have mobility issues related to their own home environments. I can personalize your care to improve your mobility in YOUR home (i.e. your kitchen, shower, areas of fall risk). Being in your own home lets me help you reach your goals using a directly relatable environment. I also can see you for a few visits after surgery until you are strong enough to get to an outpatient physical therapy clinic.
I accept Medicare B plans. At this time I am unable to accept Medicare Advantage (Mediare "C")
After verifying your insurance, I will set up a time to come to your home. I will arrive as on time as possible with traffic the way it is. I will finalize any paperwork we need to go over and then I will start in with your typical physical therapy evaluation. Depending on your diagnosis, I will as you about what hurts, what movements you have the most difficulty with, and what your goals are. I will likely assess your gait, your balance, your strength, or all 3 using various tests. After your evaluation, which is about 15-20 minutes, we will come up with a plan for meeting your goals. I will put together a home exercise program, and if we are both in agreement that I should come back, we will schedule another visit (or 2 or 3). I will be at your house about 1 hour.
For a mobility assessement, I come to your house and see if you need a walker, cane, grab bars, etc in your home. I can teach you how to adjust these devices and also how to properly use them. I can perform some balance and fall evaluations and see if you are at risk for falls and give you some personalized exercises to help you that you can do on your own. At the end of the mobility assessement, if we both agree that you would benefit from continued therapy, we can schedule that or I can direct you to receiving care at an outpatient clinic.
To get scheduled, I need to verify your medicare benefits. You can fill out the google form on the website or you can call me and I can take down your information so I can verify your coverage. After I verify your coverage, I can call and get you scheduled, tell you how to get a prescription from your doctor for therapy (if you don't already have one), and go from there!
